TARIQA TIJANIYYA IS THE PATH OF THE PROPHET (SAW): KHUTBAH OF SHAYKH AL-ISLAM IBRAHIM NIASSE (RA)

Assalamu Alaikum.

Our Tariqa At-Tijaniyya is clearly established upon well-known pillars just as our Deen is clearly established upon well-known pillars, such as Salat & Sawm. The Tariqa is established upon the 3 pillars of al-Istighfar, Salat ‘ala Nabi(SAWS) and “La ilaha il Allah”. Many people in this present time, a time of the astonishing decline of the Muslims, are being deceived into abandoning Salat and Fasting and we are witnessing many others denying the Sufi leaders and their Turuq. The Sufi orders are only the Path of the Prophet(SAWS), they do not belong to Shaykh Abdul-Qadir al-Jilani(RA) or to Shaykh Ahmad al-Tijani(RA). The Tariqa is nothing but the adoption of the Way of the Prophet(SAWS) and it is this which people are summoned to. The Sufi orders are given to cause benefit to humanity, by seeking the forgiveness of Allah, offering prayers and salutations upon the Prophet, and delving deep into the meaning of “La ilaha il Allah”. Each of these 3 pillars can be found in numerous places in the Holy Qur’an.

A (Wahabi/Salafi) scholar in Mecca once advised me to order my followers to abandon the Tariqa Tijaniyya because it is innovation (Bid’a), superstition (Kharafat), and disbelief (Kufr). He said that I, as a scholar, should return to Senegal and do the work of getting people to leave the Tariqa Tijaniyya. I asked him to continue with speaking his thoughts on the subject and when he finished talking, I asked him, “What is the Tariqa Tijaniyya?” He said, “I do not know.” I told him that is a good answer, but I know what the Tariqa Tijaniyya and Shaykh Ahmad al-Tijani(RA) is all about! I said, “Since you do not know anything about either the Shaykh nor his Tariqa, should you tell me about this or should I be informing you?” He said, “You are correct, the one who knows should be in the position of teaching.” I told him, “I asked you what is the Tariqa Tijaniyya and you replied that you know nothing about the subject, therefore I will tell you that the Tariqa Tijaniyya is only al-Istighfar, Salat ‘ala Nabi, and “La ilaha il Allah”. “Is it possible for you to advise your Muslim brother to stop seeking the forgiveness of Allah and Allah says, “Ask forgiveness from your Lord, verily, He is the Oft-Forgiving.”(71:10)? He said, “No.” I then asked him, “Are any of us infallible? The Prophet was Ma’sum and had his past and future sins forgiven by Allah (48:1-2) and yet he continued to seek the forgiveness of Allah more than seventy times a day; and in another narration, he sought forgiveness more than one hundred times a day. So, if the infallible Prophet(SAWS) is seeking the forgiveness of Allah, what about you & I, can we afford to abandon making Istighfar?” The man answered, “No.” I then began to explain the importance of Salat ‘ala Nabi by saying, “Allah orders the believers to send prayers and salutations upon him in His Saying, “O you who believe! Send your Salat on him, and greet him with a salutation of peace!”(33:56), and the Prophet himself said, “Whosoever offers one Salat on me, Allah will offer ten Salat upon him.”; is it possible for you to advise your Muslim brothers to abandon sending Salat upon the Prophet(SAWS)?” He said,“No.” I then asked him, “Is it possible for you to advise your Muslim brothers to stop saying ‘La ilaha il Allah’? He answered,“No.” I then said to him, “This is the Tariqa Tijaniyya: to offer al-Istighfar, Salat ‘ala Nabi, and ‘La ilaha il Allah’, morning and evening. If this is an innovation, it is a Bid’a which has come in the Holy Qur’an and the Hadith! We begin our Wird al-Lazim by first saying, “I seek refuge in Allah from the accursed Devil” and the recitation of Surah al-Fatiha.

Allah says, “So recite from the Qur’an as much as may be easy for you.”(73:20); then we make al-Istighfar and Allah says, “Ask forgiveness from your Lord, verily, He is the Oft-Forgiving.”(71:10); then we make Salat ‘ala Nabi and Allah says, “O you who believe! Send your Salat on him, and greet him with a salutation of peace!”(33:56); then we say “La ilaha il Allah” and Allah says, “Remember Allah with much remembrance!”(33:41); and we do this morning and evening, as Allah says, “And glorify His Praises morning and evening!”(33:42); and “In houses which Allah has ordered to be raised, in them His Name is remembered. Therein glorify Him in the mornings and the evenings. Men whom neither trade nor sale (business) diverts them from the remembrance of Allah, nor from performing Salat nor from giving Zakat. They fear a Day when hearts and eyes will be overturned (out of the horror of the torment of the Day of Judgment.”(24:36-37). I asked the man, “Is it possible for you to order us to abandon these three (3) pillars of the Tariqa Tijaniyya?” He said, “No, but you should write a book to clearly explain what the Tariqa Tijaniyya is and how it is safe and sound and so that we can distinguish between what is the truth from the lies.” I told him, “Yes, the Tariqa Tijaniyya is only al-Istighfar, Salat ‘ala Nabi, and “La ilaha il Allah.” As I mentioned earlier in this sermon, “There is no god but Allah” has different levels of meaning. It has a shell, a core and the core of the core! To the common believers, “La ilaha il Allah” means that there is none worthy of worship besides Allah (Laa Ma‘bud bi‘l Haqq Siwahu). To those with a higher level of understanding, “La ilaha il Allah” means that there is no desired objective besides Allah (Laa Maqsud bi’l Haqq il Allah). To those with an even higher comprehension of “La ilaha il Allah” means that there is nothing in existence but Allah (Laa Mawjud bi’l Haqq il Allah). The 1st degree belongs to those who say “La ilaha il Huwa”.The 2nd degree belongs to those who say “La ilaha ila Anta”The 3rd degree belongs to those who say “La ilaha il Ana” As we stated before, the third degree is for those whose remembrance is “Allah!” “Allah!” The remembrance of Allah is the Key to Sainthood (Miftah al-Wilaya), it is also the Beginning and End of Sainthood (Bidayat wa’l Nihayat al-Wilaya), and it is also the End and the Begininng of Sainthood. If the beginning is sound, then the ending is also sound. We begin by saying “La ilaha il Allah” and then we move onto “La ilaha il Anta” and then we move onto “La ilaha il Ana”! To Allah is the return! La ilaha il Allah!!I am giving thanks and praises to Allah for the blessing of us having attained to love of each other for the sake of Allah, Glorious & Exalted is He!

I am asking Allah to reward each of you with a great reward! I am asking Him to increase your good, in both this life and the Hereafter! I am asking Allah to increase all of you in wealth and in offspring, and to place tremendous Baraka in these blessings! May Allah bless the land of Mauritania in general and to protect it from every evil, epidemic, plague and disease! I ask that Allah make us to be included among the most distinguished companions of Shaykh Ahmad al-Tijani(RA)–in this life and in the Hereafter! He is Able to do this and this is not difficult for Him! Oh Allah, send peace and blessings upon our master Muhammad, the Opener of what had been closed, the Seal of what had gone before; the Helper of the Truth by the Truth, and the Guide to Your Straight Path–may Allah’s blessings be upon him and upon his Family, and may this prayer be according to his real grandeur and surely his position is extremely great! As-Salaamu Alaykum wa Rahmatullah wa Baraktuh! Shaykh Ibrahim ibn AlHajj Abdullahi Niasse al-Tijani al-Kaolacky {Interpreted from the Arabic by Muhammad Abdullahi al-Tijani al-Ibrahimi}

THE FLOWING FLOOD IN THE MEANING OF ISLAM AND THE PATH OF TIJJANIYAH (AN EXTRACT FROM BAYE BOOKS)

SHEHU BARHAMA NIASS IN ZARIA,

SHEHU BARHAMA NIASS in Zaria, northern Nigeria in the sixties. It is entitled:

“الفيضة الجارية في معاني الإسلام والطريقة التجانية”

“THE FLOWING FLOOD IN THE MEANING OF ISLAM AND THE PATH OF TIJJANIYAH”

It includes two amazing stories about perfect and imperfect people. Please read and share: “And beware that this world will come to an end, soon this world will come to a halt. And all of us will assemble in front of Allah Almighty. When we gather in front of Allah Almighty, the nearest among the servants to Allah is the messenger of Allah(s.a.w), and the nearest people to the Prophet(s.a.w) are his companions and the disciples of Sheikh Tijjani that the Prophet(s.a.w) promised them among his companions. And i(Sheikh Ibrahim Niass) will never allow any waliyi(friend of Allah) to be between me and the messenger of Allah(s.a.w) on the Last Day except Sheikh Tijjani only. And i will not allow anyone to be closer to the companions of the messenger of Allah (s.a.w) among my disciples. And as if i look at that time(now). And beware that will come by the will of Allah. And when the time comes and what i said is false you will see it. I hope Allah will benefit all of you. As long as you visited us from these far places today. I visited you (also).

Sustenance(rizk) is in two forms. A sustenance that you go for it yourself, that is what you gain by your visit (ziyarah), and a sustenance that Allah Almighty grants you from his honor. He destined to come to you with his bestowal, while you are(laying) on your pillow. And this is what happened to you today. All praise be to Allah, ziyarah (a visit) for the sake of Allah is a great thing. It benefits the visitor, eaither a perfect or imperfect. Or(benefit) the visited(host), eaither perfect or imperfect. And i will give you two examples in it; There was something that happened about rubbers and thieves who knew that one fulani Sheikh used to receive a large number of people on visit. Then the rubbers and thieves gathered and said let`s go to his visit and steal the shoes and monies of his visitors. You know that these visitors were not good people at that time. They came with only an intention, just to steal. But Allah destined them to precede the visitors and came before them. The Sheikh asked them what brought you here? They said, we came to visit you for the sake of Allah Almighty. He said praise be to Allah my child has been sick for quite a long time. And doctors were incapable of curing him. So he prepared food for them and they ate. He said, wash your hands here(a bowl). They washed their hands. Then the Sheikh took the water they just washed their hands with to his sick child. He gave him to drink and wiped his bodybwith it, and(the sick child miraculously) got cured. The Sheikh came to them and said, listen to the glad tidings with blessing of your visit for the sake of Allah. My child that his sickness was incapable to be cured by doctors, but Allah cured him only with the water you washed your hands with. And they begin to look at each other in amazement, after which they all confessed about their intention and repented. They said O Sheikh we have repented to Allah Almighty. By Allah we have(purposely) came for only rubbery and thievery, but we have repented to Allah. This is a proof that, a visitor even if he has imperfection he has some virtues from Allah Almighty, where Allah cured the sick with their hand washing water. And if the visited(host) is imperfect, so this is the story of Abdul `Ula.

Abdul `Ula during his time he was a renowned waliyi for grooming people. So a murid who loves Allah Almighty heard about him and left his land with all his wealth to Abdul `Ula. When he entered the town, he asked(people) if they know Abdul `Ula. They led him to a man called Abdul `Ula, who was immoral and unchaste, he wouldn`t engage in anything but taboos, alcohol and forbidden acts. But a man came with much yearning until he would not see the immoral acts that Abdul `Ula was indulging in. When he reached him he asked, are you Abdul `Ula, he said yes. Then this man said, I have given myself and wealth all to you. So command me with want you want. So he showed him and trained him for a work as part of his works. This man became busy working day and night, and the waliyi (Abdul `Ula) died. And before the advent of Sheikh Tijjani whenever a waliyi would die, it was incumbent to choose a khalifah(successor) for him. So the awliyah(friends of Allah) gathered to choose a khalifah for this waliyi. So they agreed that this man that was serving this lewd man, loving him for the sake of Allah is the one who supposed to be his khalifah. And Allah pulled him to his presence and he inherited the waliyi as his khalifah who died. So after(the house of the waliyi) was opened for him, it became clear to him that this man that used to serve the lewd man was an enemy of Allah Almighty. But he benefitted from his(good) intention. So had one of you believed in a stone (through which he seeks to know Allah), it would have benefitted him. We hope Allah Almighty will fulfill your lovely expectations through a despicable servant and may Allah make all of us lovers in his course. And make us exclusive companions of Sheikh Tijjani.”

(AN EXTRACT FROM BAYE BOOKS) “مجلس في المواعظ الحسنة”,

SHEHU BARHAMA IN KATSINA

“مجلس في المواعظ الحسنة”

Assalamu Alaikum.

“A Great Gathering of Lectures “, which Shehu Barhama Kaolack had delivered in Katsina, northern Nigeria in the sixties. These three and half pages will take a reader through analysis of the three pillars of Islam, prayer, fasting and zakat or poor tax. Readers will be excited with two amazing stories he narrated about the positive impact of prayer and charity. “….After that is ((Prayer)). So a servant[of Allah] performs daily prayers, it is the greatest act with which Allah Almighty is worshipped. The proof for that is that all mandatory[compulsory] acts that Allah made mandatory on this earth and with the prayer, when He wanted to be worshipped, He took his servant[Prophet s.a.w] upon a nocturnal journey[ ascension or Isra’e wal mi’eraj] and he made it mandatory from the heaven. Then prayer became an ascension and with prayer, a servant ascends until he becomes closer to Allah. The Prophet[PBUH] said ((The closest a servant gets to Allah is during prayer)) Allah has said: ((Prostrate and get near[to Me])) And the Prophet(PBUH) was ascended[to the heaven] with salat, it is in the same vain that we get ascended by it. And Allah has timed prayer with His saying: ((Verily, prayer is to the believers a documented practice on time)). And He has commanded for its performance when He said, ((Establish prayer)) and paying attention to it, as He said, ((Pay attention upon your prayers)) and with reverence, as He said, ((Those who are reverent in their prayer)). And on its regular performance, He said, ((Those who are regular on their prayer)). And the Prophets(PBUH) and those who came after them, may Allah make as among them, they have than all that. So Allah mentioned them when he said, ((They are the inheritors[of paradise])). And a group had refrained from prayer. And their leader was Abu Ja’al, he and those who followed him had entered into hell. And those who entered hell asked them and said, ((…What has led you to the hell? they said: we never used to be among those who pray.)) And prayer is like the position of a head from the rest of the body, whoever paid attention to prayer has paid attention to the religion[Islam]. Whoever mistreated it, he has mistreated the religion. Nothing from Allah is gained but with prayer. Allah has said, ((Advise your family with prayer and be constantly persistent on it, We[Allah] would not ask you for provision, We will provide for you)). A verse. And everyone who performed prayer Allah will enrich him, whether he is poor or rich. He who took prayer for granted, that (negligence of prayer) will be a pity to family. (So) take your prayer very important, take your prayer very important. If it becomes difficult for a man to be steadfast, then he should pay attention to prayer, that is where lies the steadfastness.

((It was narrated that an immoral person used to lust(have excessive desire for other women) and his neighbor has a beautiful wife and he tried to seduce her. She then tricked and told him; my room is weak or fragile, and he said, what is it? She said; pray with my husband fourty times and then come i will satisfy your need(have an affair with you). Then he accepted that and he joined her husband (in prayer). In less than fourty days, she came to him and he said to her; I do not need you. (anymore, which indicates the impact the prayer had upon him).

((Two)) Fasting in its time. The Prophet(PBUH) said, ((A blessed month has come to you. Allah has made fasting in it days an obligatory act, and prayer in its nights a superregatory act. Whoever fulfilled an obligatory act in it is like the one who has fulfilled seventy obligatory prayer. And fasting is patience, and the reward of patience is paradise (including) for the one who fed a fasting person)). It means the reward of the person who fed him is paradise. And he would have the reward of the person who fast. They((the sahabah or companions said it is not all of us who is capable of feeding the fasting person. He the Prophet(PBUH) said: Whoever gives a fasting person a date or water to drink is like he has fed him)).

((Three)) Paying the zakat (poor tax). Whoever wants his wealth to last long, then he needs to spend out of it (by giving zakat). ((It was narrated that a man ask his Lord to enrich him, then Allah revealed to his Prophet to say to his servants; If i give him wealth in the half of his life, half of it he is poor and half of it he is rich, which one should come first? He then consulted his wife to seek her opinion. She said, let the wealth comes now. He said to her: poverty after richness is a difficult situation. She then said do not disagree with me. He said then, let the wealth come. When the wealth came, the woman said to him: Whenever you sew or made a new dress, do the same as a charity and whenever you did something(for your pleasure), do the same to the poor people. By so doing, the wealth lasted for a long time. That is why Allah Almighty said: ((Whatever you spend He(Allah) will replace it)).

THE NEIGHBORHOOD OF THE DEVOTEES OF ALLAH (AULIYA) IS NOT LIKE THE NEIGHBORHOOD OF (ORDINARY) PEOPLE IN (ALLAH’S) POWER

Category : ARTICLES

أولياء الله جوارهم ليست كجوار البشر في القدر

The Neighborhood of the Devotees of Allah is not like the neighborhood of (ordinary) people in (Allahs) Power They are human but not like the rest of mankind. Their neighborhood is not like the neighborhood of ordinary men. And the proof of that is in the scared hadith which was reported on the authority of Abu Hurairah may Allah be pleased with him who said: “Whoever shows enmity to someone devoted to Me, I shall be at war with him. My servant draws not near to Me with anything more loved by Me than the religious duties I have enjoined upon him, and My servant continues to draws near to Me with supererogatory works(nawafil), so that I shall love him. When I love him, I become his hearing with which he hears, his seeing with which he sees, his hands with which he strikes and his foot with which he walks. When he ask (something) from Me, I would surely give it to him, and where he to ask Me for refuge, I would surely grant it to him…” Narrated by Al-Bukari

Analysis About the Hadith: I become his hear that he hears with: Allah replaces his feature (of hearing) with (His) Divine exceptional and extraordinary feature and the proof of that was when Sayyidina Sariyata Bun Hisan heard the voice of Sayyidina Umar bunul Khattab calling him from far away in Madinatul Munawarah, “O Sariyah bunul Hisan, the mountain”, meaning get closer to the mountain with your army. This had happened to the holy Prophet(s.a.w) in many instances, one of it was a stick he was once holding and he heard it making tasbeeh, or invoking the name of Allah, he gave it to both Umar and Abubakar to hold and both of them heard it. This was by virtue of being Awliya or devotees of Allah. This is sometimes called the higher state of telepathy.

I will be his eyes that he sees with: —– Allah replaces the(human) feature of hearing with a Divine eyes, replete with exceptional and extraordinary power of sight. And the proof to that was the sight Umar had of an army in Iraq while he was in Madina, and the saying of Abubakar to what was in his pregnant wife, “I see the one in this stomach as a girl”, and the saying of Sayyidina Osman to a young man who had sex by looking at a woman just with his eyes, “I see the signs of fornication in your eyes.” And long before, Umar and Abubakar saw this clairvoyantly, Allah made it possible for the Prophet(s.a.w) to see the sight of the Dome of the Rock, “Masjidul Aqsa”, when he was asked by Abu Jahl to describe to them the Dome of the Rock, after he had informed them that Allah took him with Jibreel there the previous night, where he led some leading Prophets in prayer before He ascended them to the heavens.

I will be his eyes that he strikes or assaults with:—————

Allah Almighty replaces the strength of his devotee with Divine strength in his striking ability whenever he strikes, and the proof of that was the lifting of Sayyidina Ali may Allah pleased with him the gate of Hisan Khaibar(which was known in history to be very very heavy) on one hand, while wielding the sword with the other hand. The length of the door is like three meters in this time of ours. Another proof was the saying of Almighty, “Musah poked or push him (once) and he finished him (killed him) instantly”. He did not say he beat him, because poking is a smallest pointing with the hand. Perhaps the one poked might not feel it until it was repeated upon him and with Sayyidina Musah, it equated to death. ————-

I will be his legs with which he walks with:———–

Allah replaces the power of a devotee(waliyi) to travel(by walking) with powerful and greatest ability. The proof of that happened to Sayyidina ZULQARNAIN(the possessor of the two horn, who many historians agreed was the one called Alexandra the Great. He was born around six century B.C). He(and his army) had travled round the entire earth(covering the eastern and western part until they reached the two horns of the sun) and he was a young man. And this is impossible with the modern creteria of speed(to cover distance inspite of the advancement in technology). But he had walked with his army when Allah replaced their foot with the Divine foot. It is also a proof that the sahabah or companions of the Prophet(s.a.w), may Allah be pleased with them had crossed over the Euphrates river on foot with their horses, legs, horsemen and their flocks and cattle, without their legs getting wet, even a fetching cup of one of them fell in the water and he traced it and took it back, so it wouldnt get drowned. And all the sahaba are devotees (Awliya), may Allah be pleased with them. Also part of the proof is shortening the time and distance for the Prophet(s.a.w) in the nocturnal journey or ascension to the heavens. Better still, the element of time had seized to operate here for the Prophet(s.a.w)…Until(the waliyi) becomes part of the Lord(as His devine phenomenon would manifest in him), he would say to something “Be and it would be”. Allah would give him the Divine secret of “B” & “E”, so he would operate it with the Will of Allah, and the proof of that was what Sayyidina Khidir did with Sayyidina Musah, how he destroyed the boat and nobody felt it and nobody saw them, and they had no tools and equipment for breaking the boat and so on.——–

All these happens to you if Allah just love you, meaning Allah would take you a devotee and this would not happen but with supererogatory prayer. And performance of nawafil can be established but only in the hand of a devotee (of Allah) as he said in Suratul Qahaf. Devotees have special affairs. They are not like the rest of the servants. They are a people that Allah have chosen for Himself only. The hadith we just analyzed above coincides perfectly with the wisdom of St. Marcarius the Great- in (Homily 19). He paraphrased it when he said: “A man must practice good works for a long time, with great effort and determination and at last, “God comes, dwells within him and he in the Lord and the Lord Himself sows His own commandments within him, filling him with spiritual fruits.” In fact, it is only Allah who knows where He placed His devotees, by virtue of their dedication and devotion to him. To move a beat beyond abstract and analyze it within the realm of science, I remember a one-and-one conversation i had with a Muslim Corporate Lawyer and a Modern Philosopher in New York, Mr. Imtiaz Sayed. I had an interview with him in 2010, whiles working on my second book, “Not good without God”, a rebuttal against a book by an atheist chaplain at Harvard University, entitled, “Good without God”. And this is what he said: “…The structure of our genetic codes are unique…like finger prints, DNAs and eye cycles…the red blood cells that Allah created in our systems renew themselves billion times and there are 30,000 genes that Allah created for our use. And each one of us uses only 20 percent and the rest of the 80 percent are referred by scientists as, “junk genes”…. but Allah never created any “junk genes”….the fact is that, when you are in good standing with Allah, that is when you become His Waliyi or devotee, then some of these “junk genes” open up and you can see things anddo things far beyond your limit. That is why some Prophets and Messengers of Allah could see the jinnis and angels and other “guyub” or unseen phenomena. And for us to be able to see as they do, we have to devote ourselves to his worship(nawafil) and free ourselves from mental pollution: such as hatred, enmity, dishonesty and the rest and this is hard….It is then that we will not destroy our “junk genes”, and Allah will expand our horizon to enable us go beyond the 20 percent genes usage.” It is amazing to realize that Allah had declared this reality over 1400 centuries ago when he said in Quran Chapter 72 verses 26-27 (Suratul Jinn, the Spirit/Demons), that: “He (alone) knows the Unseen(Unknown), nor does He make anyone acquainted with His Secrets. Except a messenger whom he has chosen: And then He makes a band of watchers march before him and behind him.” Now we are connecting the dots with the later generation of Awliya or Devotees of Allah, most especially, Maulana Sheikh Ibrahim Niass As the hadith of the Prophet(s.a.w) says: That: “The scholars of my Ummah are like the Prophets of the children of Israel”, meaning the Prophets that came before him. And in another hadith he said:—— That:

“Scholars are those who inherit the Prophets.” ——-

Hence, since there were/are Awliya/devotees among these later generation of scholars with Divine knowledge of Allah, they also inherited theirs qualities that made them unique. Some of them were Sheikh Ahmadal Tijjani, Sheikh Muhammed Gazali, Sheikh Ibnul Arabi, Sheikh Abdul Qadiril, Sheikh aliyu Arazimi, Sheikh Gibrima, Sheikh Abdul Qadiri Jailani, Sheikh Ahmed Bamba (Senegal) who had repeated the miracle of the sahabah/companions of the Prophet(s.a.w), mentioned above, by walking on the surface of the sea without getting their feet wet and many more. But above all was the one and only best lover of Allah and Rasululah of the last century, ———

The loner of his generation and leader of his era, Maulana Sheikh Ibrahim Niass, who had experienced virtually all these miraculous phenomena in his life time.——-

With the first one regarding the sense of hearing, Allah made it possible for him to hear what was in the heart of people. In his book, ——-

“The Book of the Spokesperson of Faidah (Divine Flood) on Some Wonders of the Custodian of Faidah”, —- which translated, Sheikh Ahmed BabalWaiz(grandpa), his spokesperson ans interpreter in Ghana narrated an incident that happened to him with Sheikh while eating breakfast with a group of Arab murids of in Dakar, in the sixties. He(Sheikh BabalWaiz) said, he was thinking in his heart and asking himself “when are we going back to Kaolack?” And suddenly, Sheikh turned towards him and said, “Alhaji Baba, dont worry we will go to Kaolack next Wednesday”. And Sheikh BabalWaiz was so flabbergasted, because he never revealed what he was thinking about to him. Another incident occurred when Sheikh Yahuza Zaria visited him. While sitting in his hall, he observed some women giving him a massage in his inner room, while he(Sheikh)was asleep. Then he began to think, “why does this Sheikh have strange women massaging him?” Sheikh suddenly woke up and told someone to call Sheikh Yahuza inside. When he entered, Sheikh said to him in Arabic, “Huma amataaya”, these two women are my slave-wives. (And you know, it is allowed in Islam for one to have slaves women on top of his four wives). Sheikh Yahuza was amazed that Sheikh had telepathically heard what he was thinking about. He then apologized to Sheikh and he told him not to worry, but Allah informed him about what Shaitan was whispering in his heart. Regarding Allah manifesting His eye sight upon his devotees sight, once Sheikh and his two children were travelling to Makkah for Hajj, one was Sheikh Tijani Niass, the current Khalifah and the other was his senior brother, Sheikh Ahmed Dam. When Sheikh Ahmad Dam was unable to get the airline ticket, he took the ship or sea vessel from Dakar seaport. While Sheikh Tijjani was in an aircraft with their father Sheikh Ibrahim Niass. When he realized his brother was not with them, he asked Sheikh where was Sheikh Ahmed Dam and Sheikh said he was in the ship teaching someone “Manasikal Hajj”, the book on the principles and cannons of Hajj. Lo and behold, when they finally reached Makkah Sheikh Ahmad Dam asked his friend to escort him to Sheikh. When they came to Sheikh(before he spoke), Sheikh Tijani asked his brother, if he was teaching someone “Manasikal Hajj” in the ship? and he answered in the affirmative,”yes” and “…he is my friend from Dakar”. And Sheikh then suddenly interrupted saying, “…He is rather your father-in-law not your friend”. They were both surprised about how Sheikh got to know what he was doing in the ship, as well as confused about the man being his sons(Sheikh Ahmad Dam) father-in-law. This came to fruition after 30 years later. It happened that, this man was a painter living in Dakar and he went to paint the house of Sheikh Ahmad Dam. When he requested “Tajdeed”, or revival of werid from him, he realized how it had impacted his life so much and he requested from Sheikh Ahmad Dam to marry his daughter, which he accepted. This brought the prediction of Sheikh that “he was his father-in-law not brother”, 30 years ago a reality. With regards to the hands of Allah manifesting in the waliyi/devotee, I remember yet another incident Sheikh BabalWaiz narrated in his book, mentioned above. It was when they welcomed Sheikh in Kumasi-Ghana in the early fifties with a mammoth crowd, everyone was eager to touch him and he(Sheikh)would stretch his hands towards them and they would move far away from him. This was through the power of Allah. And his legs that Allah would manifest his Divine power also happened according to the book of Sheikh BabalWaiz above. Sheikh happened to deliver a lecture in Kumasi-Ghana, during that visit and at the premises of this lecture, Sheikh prayed and predicted that insha Allah that place would become the central mosque in Kumasi. And up till now there exist the second biggest mosque in Ghana. By implication, Allah had answered his wish about where he had stepped his foot to be a masjid.

There were/are so numerous instances Sheikh had prayed to Allah to fulfill his wishes and it would be granted to him. World leaders – from King Faisal of Saudi, Jamal Abdul Nasir of Egypt, Kwame Nkrumah of Ghana and many African leaders would visit him or try to meet him to seek dua for themselves, whenever he would visit their countries and Allah would answer his prayers, due to his dedication and devotion to Allah and His messenger Muhammad(s.a.w). No wonder a sufi poet wrote: That: The hearts of the divine knowers(of Allah) have eyes They see what onlookers do not see And with tongues secretly invoking (the name of Allah) It is hidden from the views of noble(angels) writers (of good and bad) And a wing that flies without feathers Towards the Kingdom of the Lord of the worlds And they left us a legacy of the knowledge of the unseen(to drink from) Which pierces through (unravels) the knowledge of the ancient(people before them)

EXPANSION OF KNOWLEDGE (SHEIKH IBRAHIM INYASS IN KANO)

Assalamu Alaikum.

It was a Muhadarah/Lectures he had delivered for two straight days(first day for the Shuyuk and the next day for the Youth) at the forecourt of the Palace of the great Amir of Kano in northern Nigeria in the early fifties. In attendance were the then Amir of Kano himself, his cabinet members (sub-chiefs), dignitaries, ministers of state, prominent scholars and devoted murids. It was complied in the form of a book among his 75 books, entitled:

“توسعة العلم والعرفان للشيوخ والشبان”

“Expansion of Knowledge & Intellectualism for the Shuyuk & Youth”.

It is so amazing how sheikh interwoven these first four pages with logical and scientific analysis which is bound to make any none believer or an atheist far athinking about his idiocy and stupidity regarding an `ideology` of the none existence of Allah. It also crystallizes the real position of Maulana Sheikh Ibrahim Niass regarding the reality of “Haqiqah”. So it is necessary for us to shed off any blindfolded arguments or views of wilayah that habours some shroud of shirk by some sufi `scholars` that seems to contradict the stands of Sheikh Ibrahim Niass, because he was known to be called: “Compendium of Haqiqah and Shariah.”, by virtue of his exceptional and extra-ordinary zeal and enthusiasm to follow the Shariah (Qur`an & Sunnah), where he would echo and re-echo the common stands of Abal Abass, Alqutubul Rabbani Wal `Aariful Samadaani, Wal-Sharifful Hassani Al-Sheikh Ahmadal Tijjani, that: “If you heard something from me weigh it on the scale of the Sharia, if it coincides, live by it and if it contradicts leave it.” So any Sheikh that claims wilayah and contradicts the Shariah with elements of shirk is not worth following. Sheikh wrote regarding himself in his Deewan(book of poetry praising the Prophet(PBUH): If the best of mankind(the Prophet) walks i walk behind him And where he stops(i also stop), because the destination is far.” This as well indicates Sheikh`s unflinching desire to follow the Sunnah of his beloved and our beloved Prophet (PBUH).

In the Name of Allah Most Gracious Most Merciful Praise be upon the Greatest Prophet(PBUH) We start from the beginning by talking about Eeman[Faith] Faith is believe in Allah alone. And it is the highest priority in every affairs. And any person who is blessed to belief in Allah alone and does not associate partners with him, he is the one who is successful in this world and also successful in the hereafter. As for the non-believers and anyone who to took to deviation and atheism, trying to negate the existence of Allah Almighty, and giving people doubt about the presence of the creator Almighty. The creation from the beginning to the end are in two groups. One group for the merciful[Allah] and the another group for the devil[satan]. And I advise whoever doubts the existence of Allah or cause people to doubt it, to doubt about his existence before anything. This man sees himself in existence, strong and capable of doing anything. And he doubts about the existence of the creator, then who is this man? He who was created from a sperm, then a leech, then a chew-like object, and he was created a small baby. After which he became a strong adult[youth], then after which he became an old or aged person. After which he would die, and nothing would prevent him from that and can never escape that. When a man is born, he is bound to be young. First, a young person has no sense[to know his left from right] and no strength. And he does not possess anything and cannot think about anything: This is the beginning of every person. Scholars, Kings, Strongmen, Soldiers and leaders of nations, all went through this. After this[process], the person would become a strong being, acting the way he wants. And after that he would return as an old man as he used to be young, he returns as he started. And after this, he must die as well: Mankind is like this, with what man speaks, and with what he ceases to speak and sometimes with what he talks frequently? A man sometimes loses his eyesight, with what he hears and with what he does not hear? Then he would become rich sometimes and poor sometimes, healthy sometimes and sick sometimes, alive sometimes and dead sometimes. Why this? This is part of the[involuntary] actions of man. Even if mankind is the one acting by himself, that would not happen to him(on his on will). If the affairs[of creation and action] is in his own hands, if he sees himself strong, rich and capable of[doing what he wishes] he would be like that. But mankind, after he becomes strong and youthful, with black hair and handsome or pretty face, he must return to the white/gray hair one day. And why? he became weak after he used to be strong, and after that, he must die.

Mankind from the beginning of creation to our present day have returned to different world not this world. And that world as compared to this one is like a baby in its mother’s womb. And the person who becomes intelligent and knowledgeable acting the way he wishes and those who left for the hereafter none of them have returned. They are in two parts. One part have earned what they wanted, and they have from the pleasures what an eye has never seen, an ear has never heard and it has never been imagined in a man’s heart. If they were ordered to returned to this world, they would not have accepted it and would decline it. And among them there are those who have returned to a locked prison[Hell fire], even if he could be able to return to the world to believe in Allah and do good deeds, he would have returned, but alas, he cannot. And this world that there are children of mankind, they are like the owners of this world. This is a creature created by Allah, they have the world and what is in it. Allah Almighty says[in the Qur’an]: “He[Allah] created for you all what is in the earth.” All this is for the children of Adam[Mankind]. But what Allah created on the surface of the earth is a lot. This is human, this is animal, and these are beasts[and monsters] and these are birds and these are fish from the oceans. All these are creations of Allah Almighty. None is more wonderful than the other. None is more convincing as a proof over the other regarding the ability of the maker. The inventor of all these things is Allah Almighty. And he had sent messengers to teach them about Allah Almighty from Adam to our Prophet Muhammad[PBUH]. All of them had called the creation to believe in Allah and refrain from [shirk] associating partners with Allah Almighty.

Until the [da’awah] propagation of this Prophet[PBUH] reached us and we believed in Allah. And praise be to Allah. So believe in Allah without associating partners is the way to happiness. And shirk (associating partners with) Him is more hidden from swarming [crowded] ants on endocrine rock, in the darkest part of the night. There are clear shirk and hidden shirk and the most hidden shirk. And the one who practices hidden shirk associates partner with Allah and worships anyone apart from Allah, as the Christians are doing. They worship Issah[Jesus] or [his] picture, this is a clear shirk. And the hidden shirk is for the one who worships Allah in Islam and shows off and wants their praise and being arrogant upon His servants. He does things not for the sake of Allah, but for people to see him and talk about it(May Allah help us to fight the shaitan who misleads people to do that). And the most hidden shirk is for the one who see other[creatures] than Allah. And in reality, there is nothing[significant and worthy of worship] than Allah. It was because of this that I say: He who doubts about the existence of Allah, I advise him to doubt about his own existence first. And [now talking further on] the clear shirks, hidden shirk and most hidden shirk, with the clear shirk, Allah does not accept the worship of the one who does it. And with the hidden shirk, Allah does not accept it from his heart.[Because] he does not accept a shirk-related work. And a shirk-related heart is not accepted by Allah. And Allah says in the Qur’an[Those who believed in Allah alone and have never associated partners with Him they are the successful ones and they are the fortunate ones.” The great blessings Allah bestowed is belief in Allah Almighty. Mankind may be an intellectual, and intellect [knowledge] is the key [that unlocks] faith or belief. He who is not a believer in Allah would never be a knowledgeable person in our religion. He who wants to be a Waliyi[being in good standing with Allah] and does not have faith[in Allah], he would never be one. He who is not a believer and is not ‘Aarif[who knows Allah according how he should know Him], and he does not become a leader nor a prophet, nor a messenger, and he who is not a believer would not enter Jannah when he dies. COMMENTARY & CLARIFICATION ABOUT TIJJANIYYAH AND TIJJANIYYANS (WEEK 5)

Assalamu Alaikum.

This week`s excerpt are from pages 16, 17 & 18. It dwells on the fact that theazkar/awrad or litany of Tijjaniyah is not bid`ah or innovation.

The Male & Female Tijjaniyans are among those who indulge in numerous (zikir) remembrance of Allah And in the reply “Al-Maskat” written by the intellectual who possessed divine knowledge, a fiqh scholar Muhammad Al-Kansusy, spokesman of Tariqah he stated that: “….They ( meaning the followers of Tariqatul Tijjaniyah), by Allah are among the best(people) of this umah. And praise be to Allah, they are purified from all slanders, and why not? since they are always fasting, praying at night praying to their Lord by day and night, they are seeking his pleasure. Among them there are those who do not know what sleep is. And among them are those who do not care about food and drink in the day but only during the festivities(eid days). Among them are those who do not reduce their (wird) litany which consist of thousands of Salatul Fatih Lima Ugliq between day and night.”

The Awrad (litany) of Tijjaniyah is not Bid`ah(innovation): For the most part, these Awrad are part and parcel of the Awrad of the messenger of Allah (Peace be upon him), and its followers have tested its benefits. And there is nothing that has a greatest benefits to a real Muslim than consistency in remembrance of Allah and propagating the message of Islam with words and action. And we do not ascribe kufur or non belief against Muslim, because declaring non belief against one of the followers of the qibla (Muslims) poses difficulties. However, whoever treated us with prejudice and declared us as non believers we will also declare him as a non believer, because he ascribed non believe against a believer: “Then one of them is affirmed to be real disbliever”. And in reality, when a student sit behind a teacher and requested him to teach him what he recites after the prayers and he told him `Mu`aqabaat` which is so and so. And in so and so numbers, and what is said in the morning and evening and at the point of wudu or ablution and during sleep, when praying witir, and during tawaf (circummambulation) around ka`bah for example. The questioner would neither be considered an innovator nor the teacher as well.

Awrad of Tijjaniyah is Awrad of(Prophet) Muhammad(s.a.w): The scholar Abubakar Al-Deemany Al-Shanqity: Or he disblieved in Allah when a servant says Sincerely(La Ilaha Illah Lah) There is no god but Allah Or when he sort forgiveness from the Lord seeking From Him remission whose (Jannah) Paradise lies on His Hands If this (act) becomes a disbelief O people Then commit yourselves to disbelief you will praise its consequences And these(azkar) remembrance even if Shaitan was to command for it, it would have been mandatory to practice. This is based on a proof by a hadith: “He has told you the truth but he is a liar”(when a Shaitan appeared to after warning him not to come and still food again, he gave him “Hayatal Kursiyi to be reciting”). So what would be your thoughts if it was commanded by a (waliyi) or saint among the saints of Allah. And it is the awrad (litany) of the Prophet(Peace Be Upon Him). People got tolerant and related part of it to Sheikh Ahmed Tijjani may Allah be pleased with him. And all are one, because they are awrad or litany of(Prophet)Muhammad(s.a.w), nothing else. For it is the remembrance of Allah not anyone else.

COMMENTARY & CLARIFICATION ABOUT TIJJANIYYAH AND TIJJANIYYANS (WEEK 4)

Salam Alaikum folks, Juma’ah Mubarak.

As part of our weekly Baye Book Translation Project, this is the fourth in our series from the book of Maulana Sheikh Ibrahim Niass entitled: ” Commentary & Clarification About Tijjaniyah & The Tijjaniyans” This week`s excerpt pages 2 &16 focus on the definition of “Tijjaniyah” and the relationship between Tijjaniyah and Qur`an and Sunnah.

All praise be to Allah Lord of the World And prayer and peace be upon the most virtuous of messengers and upon his household, his companions and their followers with kindness till the Last Day.

“Say (Muhammad) this is my path I call (for worship) of Allah with whoever followed me upon discernment me and whoever followed me and glory be to Allah and am not among the polythiest.”

However, the path of Sheikh Ahmed bun Muhammadal Tijjani may Allah be pleased with him which he prescribed for his blessed companions to practice and propagate with their role in the world. And Allah has strengthened Islam with it in many countries. It is the three[ azkar] remembrance; Al-Istigfar, Salatul Alal Nabbiyi, with any format[meaning any salat could be recited] And La Ilaha Illa Lah. We have made enough statement in it and in (tasawwuf) mysticism in generic sense in other books. So whoever wishes can review our book “Kashiful Ilbas An Faidil Khatmi Ail Abbas“{The Removal of Confusion Concerning the(Divine) Flood of the Saintly Seal Ahmad Al-Tijjani}. It consists of intellectual research in the subject which is part of the virtues of Allah upon us and people.

This Tariqah was defined by one of the greatest of its leaders who was Sheikhul Islam in Qatar, a Tunisian Sayyadi Al-Tahir Al-Taliqi. It was availed to me by a scholar in Tunis and its mufti, Al-Sheikh Muhammadal Fadil ibn `Ashur, May Allah prolong his life. Ameen. Holding onto the Qur`an and Sunnah by the Tijjaniyans: Every author will admit that Sheikh Ahmadal Tijjani may Allah be pleased with him was so persistent in the remembrance of Allah during mid night and in the afternoon. And he would command his companions with that: And all the acts of the Tijjaniyans are part and parcel of what wipe out sins. So it not strange if someone says that , whoever get committed to it his sins will be forgiven and have (good) assumption with Allah is a courtesy. This and the companions of Sheikh Tijjani may Allah be pleased with him are the fellows of purity with water and perfection of prayer. They are the fellows of the Qur`an in terms of memorization and recitation. And those who spend(their money in the course of Allah) and they are those who fast, perform hajj and embark upon jihad or any strive in the course of Allah. And this is with instructions of Sheikh Ahmadal Tijjani who has `melted` in the love of Allah. A pious scholar, an ascetic, a pietist, a celibate in the course of Allah real celibacy.

COMMENTARY & CLARIFICATION ABOUT TIJJANIYYAH AND TIJJANIYYANS (WEEK 3)

Assalamu Alaikum.

This week`s coincidentally happens to address the current controversy and readers can read the position of Sheikh Tijjani and Sheikh Ibrahim on these controversial issues which seems to divide us.

The lesson I personally learnt from this book was that, no matter who you are in the field of knowledge, if your views go diametrically opposed to the rules of the Shariah then we do not have to abide by it. The Murid of Tijjaniyah is Full of theRemembrance of Allah And the teachings of the path of Tijjaniyah requires investing more time in the remembrance of Allah Almighty. And the best of remembrance is “Subhana Lah, Wal Hamduli Lah, Wa Lala Ilaha Illa Lah, Wa Lahu Akbar.”, and also part of its virtues is, “La Ilaha Illa Lah Wahdahu La Sharika Lah“, after the end of every prayer as it is already known.

The Scale of Tijjaniyah is The Shariah. By virtue of the charity of this approach (of Ibadah or worship) and the fact that it is in reality an approach of Qu`ran and Sunnah, some people criticized Sayyidi Alhaji Aliyu Harazimi, author of “Jawahiril Ma`ani”, “Pearls of Meanings”, because he elaborated at length regarding the virtues of this Tariqah and its values, as part of what it carries. Then they mentioned about that several times and made gross exaggeration against Sheikh Ahmed Tijjani himself. And he was the one who announced to the world entirely his popular saying: “If you hear something from me then weigh it on the scale of the Shariah what matches take it and what did not match leave it.” And this is an utterance that did not leave any chance for criticism from every point of view.

The path of Tijjaniyah is a path of Knowledge : And more often I do comment on this important announcement saying: Sheikh Tijjani has mandated his followers to seek knowledge and delve deep in intellectual persuate according to their ability. Because weighing with the scale of the Shariah and leaving it to Allah and his messenger would not be achieved but only by a seeker of knowledge. So based on this, Tijjaniyah is the path of knowledge and wisdom. And so whoever follows Sheikh Tijjani and then committed a misguided bid`ah or innovation, he never reaped(negative repercussion) but by his ownself. However, as for Sheikh Tijjani he is free from blame with this historic announcement which was supported by his manner and demeanor, may Allah be pleased with him. And even his entire actions whose foundation and criteria are based on the Sunnah of the Prophet Muahmmed (s.a.w) as that was witnessed by both exclusive and generic people.

Tijjaniyah is a path of Jihad (Striving in the Course of Allah): And in the book entitled, “Islam the Straight Path”, page 109, he said in what was written: “And in the seventh century of the Hijrah calendar(13th of the Christian calendar), Timbuktu used to be the center of Islamic culture and civilization. And after five centuries, the new defensive power got expanded when the State of Sokoto was established and subjected majority of westetn Sudan with the help of the Sufi brotherhood of Markesh – who were Murids of the path of Tijjaniyah.”
