Status of Saints[Friends of Allah]

In fact, it has emerged in recent time or of late, some risky phenomena or occurrences, part of which is:
indulgence of some murids in somethings that are contrary to the ethics of the murids of Tariqah. And the danger of engagement in the likes of these issues is very huge upon murids, because the least effect of it is thickening the [divine] curtain upon [salik] who strives to reach the divine reality, so he would be in the swirl of confusion and misperception wasting his time in which is not require to indulge in it originally.

Part of these phenomena is engagement with some murids by regarding some awliyah [friends of Allah] more virtuous above others, or dividing or specifying their status knowing that it is only Allah Almighty who distributes positions and ranks. And not the awliyah who distribute them.

And each one of them Allah distinguishes him with position which has been preserved for him without claiming or fabricating for himself. And will downplay upon the position of awliyah who have came before him. Or who were higher than him in terms of position among the special people due to the achievement of worldly matters.
So, because of this Sheikh Ibrahim Niass may Allah be pleased with him has set up his approach and clarified it and walked upon it. And that is what his khulafah or predecessor and followers are upon now in many parts of the world.

Innocence of his eminence Sheikhul Islam Maulana Sheikh Ibrahim Niass may Allah be pleased with him
From the false claims that are attributed to him dishonestly and slanderously

In fact, his eminence Sheikh Ibrahim Niass may Allah be pleased with him is innocent from all the things attributed to him now of delusions and viciousness. And he has no link at all with what is happening now. And all these issues are affiliated to Sheikh Tijjani. However, the noble messenger of Allah[PBUH] is the master of the entire creatures. And if you have some ignorant people regarding the shoes of the Prophet [PBUH] more virtuous than some prophets, then this is an issue that takes [people] off the path [of Islam]. In fact, Allah Almighty has differentiated between mankind and inanimate [creatures], no matter what it is. And man is not compared with a shoe by virtue of being a prophet. And the likes of Sayyidina Ibrahim may the peace of Allah be upon him and the one who comes with a shoe with an impression that it is the lowest thing and then would say: Verily, this shoe is more virtuous than Sayyidina Ibrahim may the peace of Allah be upon him with his prophethood and messengership and his position in the sight of Allah, because if this statement emerged from a none believer, then is a different thing. And when it emerged from a person who entered the Tariqah to distort it he was initiated in it and others have commanded him to do that, then we have to say: Hasbuna Lahu Wan’emal Wakeel [Allah is enough for us as a shield] Allah is enough for him. And we have no comment on this, because the Tariqah of Tijjaniyah is a Tariqah of discipline. It is a Tariqah built on the holy Qur’an and noble Sunnah. And total reliance on this Tariqah is a virtuous blessings of Allah and there is no single person that would be able to reach the determination and effort or the strength and power that [Sheikh Ibrahim Niass] had reached.

And because of that, so if he [that man] became incapable of eulogizing his Sheikh and he would not get [anything to say] than to regard him above the Prophet [PBUH]. Or above a different prophet? If he were not a Muslim then he is doomed. But if he is a Muslim he needs to repent before he returns as a Muslim. And if others initiated him in into Islam to undertake this work to distort the Tariqah of Sheikh Tijjani, or distorts the approach of Sheikh Ibrahim, then we hereby say: Asbuna Lahu Wani’emal Wakeel, [Allah is enough for us a shield]. And Allah will separate between the two of us with the truth.

So, due to that, if you want to eulogize the eminence of Maualana Sheikh Ibrahim Niass, may Allah be pleased with him, do not regard him above Sheikh Tijjani, because the moment you did that, you have humiliated him in reality and have misstated his status and did not eulogize him. For example, you say someone has not given birth and he was not been born, if you say he has not given birth, there is no fault in it because Allah might have not provided him with a child.

But it is not possible to say that a man came into this earth without birth, this is not found. When you come and say that he [Sheikh Ibrahim] was not born, I would say that you have accused him that all his known children are not his children. So what sort of abusive behavior is bigger than this, because you said to a person that his entire children have no father?!

So because of this, it is very necessary for you not to stop holding fast unto the holy Qur’an and the noble Sunnah of the Prophet [PBUH]. And to give each waliyi his due in terms of glorification and reverence. And Sheikh Tijjani may Allah be pleased with him is the seal of the awliyah, he would never profess or proclaim [any superiority], and he had never commanded us to disrespect or belittle Sheikh Abdul Qadir Al-Jailani, or Imamul Shazili, not even Al-Rufa’ee, not even Al-Badwi not even Al-Mursi, but he used to revere all of them.

And part of what is known by everyone is that, a person that knows the value of something is the one who revers it. However, as for the ignorant he is like a blind who has no commander and does not know which hole he would fall in. So those people if they think by so doing, they would raise the status of Sheikh and revere him, but they have rather fell and lowered (his status) to the lowest ebb. But Allah would protect Sheikh from these false [exaggerative] claims.

So it is incumbent to clarify to people that Allah has protected and freed the eminence of Maulana Sheikh Ibrahim Niass, may Allah be pleased with him from all these falsehoods that are attributed to him, dishonestly and slanderously, considering [by those people] that that is his status. But as for the [mujazib] who is lured in a hallucinatory state or those who claim to be in hallucination, they had been like this since time immemorial. But their statements are regarded like the statements of lunatics or abnormal people, it is rejected and laughed over. However, it would not be viewed as an authentic issue that is built upon and it is not taken [ with any seriousness] and that is the nature of [majazeeb] hallucinated people.

Sheikh Ibrahim may Allah be pleased with him had put in practice an ideology based on the Qur’an and Sunnah completely. And Sheikh as well applied Islamic religious practices as Allah has commanded regarding prayer, fasting, [zakat] poor tax and [hajj] pilgrimage. And Sheikh Ibrahim had also applied the Islamic Sharia in his relations, whether it is in the field of trade, marriage or other issues, beginning from the commandments[wasayaa] to the end of it and sections on fiqh [Islamic jurisprudence].

Sheikh Ibrahim had applied the Sharia in its entirety in his life time, and the life time of his followers, so Allah raised up the status of Sheikh Ibrahim with holding fast on to the Islamic Sharia in both Qur’an and Sunnah. It is therefore incumbent upon his students to know that this was the approach of Sheikh Ibrahim.

And we will give one example, some people who allege that Sheikh Ibrahim had more than one wife, and that he had violated the rules of Allah’s Sharia in marriage, this is not true in the sense that he told one of his wives during his last illness[before he died]: “If the order of Allah happened and I departed to my Lord, return to your country and get married. She then said to him: To marry after you? He said to her: I am not a Prophet to stop you from getting married, but I am rather a student of Sheikh Tijjani may Allah be pleased with him.” And indeed this virtuous Sayyadah returned back to her native country after the demise of Sheikh Ibrahim may Allah be pleased with him. And she acted upon this advice and got married and had a baby for another man. This statement would not be issued even among his students, as well as to be issued by a man who has reached his status and yet, he did it.

So what is expected from his students from where they belong from all nooks and corner is for themselves to commit to these principles, and for them to tread on his ideology. And for them to distant themselves from bid’ah[innovation] and newly invented matters and for them to be role models and leaders for this religion. This is my advice for my brothers in Allah and lovers among the divine knowers of Allah and the students of Maulana Sheikh Ibrahim may Allah be pleased with him. And am not the only one who raises his voice with his advice, there is no doubt that lovers of Sheikh starting from all his children by blood and his children in spirit, wherever they happened to be this is their views and stand. And this is their sincerity for Sheikh Ibrahim.

There is no one among us who is able to influence him with money nor honor. No matter what a man would say or do he would not be able to reach his status or position, or a level that Allah elevated him to. Likewise we, no matter how we describe or eulogize the Prophet [PBUH]. So no matter what we do we would not be able to reach one word that Allah Almighty mentioned in his great book regarding the right of the Prophet [PBUH], where he said:
{Verily, you possess the greatest of character}[The Pen: 4]

And the word “’Azeem”, “Great”, from Allah Almighty has no limit, and just like Allah Almighty raised our Prophet Muhammad [PBUH] upon all prophets and messengers. Same applies to awliyah or saints of Allah, Allah Almighty has raised the status of Sheikh Ibrahim may Allah be pleased with him, upon the entire Khulafah of Sheikh Tijjani, his Khulafah are many, but no one has ever come with a significance like how Sheikh Ibrahim came with. And this is the reason why we said, If Sheikh Tijjani was the seal, then Sheikh Ibrahim was spirit of this seal.

And as if Maulana Sheikh Ibrahim Niass may Allah be pleased with him knew what would happen after him in regards to deviation, weirdness, negligence of the obligatory acts and infringement of the sanctified rules as part and parcel of irregularities. So Sheikh may Allah be pleased with has expected from us to defend his[ hadrah] presence which was not known but holding on to the great book of Allah, which falsehood would not come in front of it nor behind it. And God willing, we will continue to work with his advice to us until Allah Almighty fulfill to his eminence his wishes for this Islamic religion and the one which he started working on, so that the concerned people with divine exclusivity who will come after him will complete it, God willing.

And Maulana Sheikh Ibrahim Niass may Allah be pleased with him when he came, there were Khulafah of Sheikh Tijjani before him. However, Allah uplifts whoever He wishes then Allah raised up the position of Ibrahim may Allah be pleased with him by virtue of his upliftment of the Tariqah, and the issue of Sheikh Tijjani and his upliftment of the affairs of the Prophet[PBUH]. And it is important for people to tirelessly strive towards knowing Sheikh Ibrahim Niass, may Allah be pleased with him. So whoever wants to know him should read his [deewan] poetry, where he eulogies the Prophet [PBUH] and within his poetry they would know his status and they would know his real love of the Prophet [PBUH] and would also know the status that Allah took him to it, for Islamic revival and for reviving the religion in the heart of people where they would confirm with reality.

And Sheikh Tijjani is the seal of[wilayah] sainthood and the seal always has its essence, and the essence of this seal Sheikh Ibrahim Niass may Allah be pleased with him. And his sincere love of Allah as well as of the messenger of Allah[PBUH] and his absolute etiquette and total submission to Shiekh Tijjani may Allah be pleased with him. That is why he had overshadowed everyone who came before him and who came after him. We ask Allah Exalted and Almighty on behalf ofour entire brethren in the Tariqah ans our entire family in Faidah to wake up(pay attention) on this point.

There are people who are always trying to create an impression that Sheikh Ibrahim is an Imam of (bid’ah) innovation, but those people would never succeed, because the students of Sheikh Ibrahim are not confined only in Nigeria, neither are they confined only in west Africa, even not confined only in Senegal, nor only among human, but even among the jinnis he has students. So if there are among people who undermine his right and wanted to relate him with (bid’ah) innovation, Allah would refuse for that to happen, and they will never be able to reach this goal.

There are books in the last few years in certain newspapers in Algeria, the country in which Sheikh Tijjani may Allah be pleased with him was born.Those people wrote some statement which we do not believe that Algerian[government] sanctioned it and we do not believe that Algerian government has agreed on it. They wrote that followers of Sheikh Ibrahim are worshipping him. And this statement would not emerge but only from a man who is totally ignorant about Sheikh Ibrahim.

Salamun Alaikum and Juma’ah Mubarak. Last week we had reached the tenth excerpt in our weekly Baye Books Translation Project series of his book entitled:

We will however take a break and serialize this very lecture by one of his popular and prominent students in Nigeria and in the world, Dr. Sheikh Sharif Ibrahim Saleh Al-Hussainy(which am still elated to be assigned by my mentor and his student Dr. Sheikh Ibrahim Maqri to be translating).The topical issue is coincidentally related to the above mentioned book and we will be serializing this ten page lectures in five series, picking two pages per series. This is because the issue is very significant that readers need to read, review and reflect thoroughly and soberly by driving lessons from it and sharing with the non Tijjaniyans.

بسم الله الرحمن الرحيم

In the Name of Allah the Beneficent the Merciful

Prayer and Praise be upon our master the unlettered and trustworthy Prophet Muhammad and upon his pious and virtuous household and his companions and leaders of (jihad) worthy course.

All praise be to Allah who says: {Have patience with those who call upon their Lord in the morning and in the evening they are seeking his pleasure} He[Allah] also says:{And verily this is my straight path for follow me…} and He further says: {Be steadfast as you were commanded…} And prayer and peace be upon the leader of the prophets and pious people who said: (Whoever would live[long] among you would see many difference…[of opinions] a hadith…and also said:(Lawful things are clear and unlawful things are clear…) a hadith…And may Allah be pleased with the well known qutubul makhtum and barzakhil Muhammadiya[Sheikh Ahmadal Tijjani who said: When you hear something from me weight it on the scale of the sharia if it fits work with it and if it contradicts reject it.” And may Allah also be pleased with Sheikhul Islam and sa’adatil anam, Maulana Alhaji Ibrahim bun Abdul Lahi Niass may Allah sanctify his secret who said: (Whenever the best of mankind(Prophet Muhammad[pbuh]) walked I walked behind him…Where he stopped I would also stop, else the journey would be far)[ meaning if I do not stop where he stopped I would never reach my destination in terms of the Islamic do’s and don’ts].

However:-My brethren in the course of Allah, Assalmu Alaikum warahmatul Lahi wabarkatuhu, it is a delight and honor for us to see you attend to participate in this occasion of a brief lecture, based on the saying of Allah Al-mighty: {remind[people] if the reminder will benefit[them]} He the Almighty also says:{Remind[them],
verily reminder benefits the believers}.

And it is part of what there is no doubt in it that Allah Almighty as part of his mercy to mankind in general and with his Ummah in particular, that he has chosen[qayad] for them guiding scholars to protect this great religion throughout ages across eras, who are holding fast the trustworthy wing which could not be pulled to pieces, in spite of the increasing challenges and numerous obstacles.

And there is no doubt that the Islamic Ummah lives in the worst of circumstances and conditions in this era due to what it suffers from the external hostility and internal dislocation by planning a maliciously hateful act. And from this point, it is incumbent upon all scholars, muqadams and murids and the rest of the Muslims to take stock of themselves and return to holdfast on the status quo of our predecessors that we took the covenant or promise to practice this Tariqah from and its agreements, as well as its code of ethics and manners in dealing with the Truth[Allah] and with the Almighty and with his creatures.

HOLDING FAST ON THE SUNNAH OF THE HOLY PROPHET [PBUH] BY SHEIKHUL ISLAM MAULANA ALHAJI IBRAHIM BUN ALHAJI ABDULAHI NIASS MAY ALLAH BE PLEASED WITH HIM

His eminence Sheikhul Islam Maulana Alhaji Ibrahim Niass may Allah be pleased with him, regardless of issues raised around him about misconceptions here and there, but he was a thoroughbred scholar among Islamic scholars, and a role model on every religious issue to everyone who knows the truth and was straighten.

He remained as such until he departed to Allah may He have mercy upon him. He was an exemplary symbol in terms of holding fast on the Sunnah of the Prophet[PBUH]. And what bears witness for him are his thousands of poetic songs which he had composed in eulogizing the beloved[Prophet pbuh] on different occasions. And as his publications and his mannerism and his roaming across the entire corners of the world.

And he may Allah be pleased with him was an intellectual among the learned scholars of Sunnah, a revivalist of Tariqah and a revivalist of the [salsalah] or chain [of receiving the covenant of Tariqah] of Sheikh Tijjani. He was a revivalist as well of the people’s perception about Sheikh Tijjani, even a revivalist of Islam.

And the greatest thing that his students need to reward him with is to holdfast and full his principle, and his principle as he stated in his [qasidah] poem, that he titled: “Ruhul Adab”, the, “The Spirit of Good Morals”, where he said:

The pure path [tariqah] of virtue and approval+++Established with the Qur’an and Sunnah.

So this is the Tariqah of Tijjaniyah, Sheikh Ibrahim Niass may Allah be pleased with him had revived it due to its demise in the hearts of mankind. And the [zawaya] circles [of zikir] have been existing, while the [daraweesh] dervishes were existing, but there was no one who could connect it with knowledge.

So they used to perceive it as deeds of people who have no sense of perception. Until Sheikh Ibrahim may Allah be pleased with him emerged and established to people that, no matter where a scholar reached in the peak and pinnacle of knowledge, he would not have (spiritual) status unless he returns to Allah. And returning to Allah needs a path. And the path that reaches to Allah is through the [awliyah], who are saintly or are in good standing with Allah. And the seal of awliyah is Sheikh Tijjani may Allah be pleased with him.

And his Tariqah is well known; and it constitutes [azkar] recitations of litany which was narrated in the Qur’an and Sunnah, there is no[bid’ah] or innovation in it, and there are no invented things in it, and there is nothing that contradicts what is known about the religion with necessity. All its litany confined in seeking for forgiveness [istigfar] and invocation[salat] upon the Prophet[PBUH] and word: La Ilahah Illa Lah, which is the word of [tawhid] polytheism and the one which is the best of [azkar] litany, and it is the ultimate of litanies. There is no deed better than it or that surpasses it, for this good word is the ultimate of the litanies of this Tariqah.

Sheikh Ibrahim’s father’d name is Abdallah.

اول زوج النبي، خديجة،

The First Wife of the Prophet was Khadijah.

اول زوج الشيخ ابراهيم، خديجة

And the first wife of Sheikh Ibrahim was also Khadijah.

انجبت سيدتنا خديجة مع النبي، سيدتنا فاطمة

Sayyadah Khadijah with the Prophet gave to Sayyadah Fatimah.

انجبت، سيدتنا خديجة مع الشيخ ابراهيم انياس، فاطمة

While Sayyadah Khadijah with Sheikh Ibrahim gave birth to Sayyadah Fatima.

زوّج النبي ص، سيدنا علي ببنته فاطمة،

The Prophet gave his daughter Fatimah in marriage to Saayidina Ali bun Abi Talib.

زوّج الشيخ ابراهيم ، الشيخ علي سيسي، بنته فاطمة

While Sheikh Ibrahim gave his daughter Fatimah in marriage to Sayyadi Ali Ciessey.

انجبت، بنت النبي فاطمة مع بعلها على، بسيدنا حسن، اول سبط النبي،

The daughter of the Prophet Fatimah with her husband Ali gave birth to Hassan, the first grandson of the Prophet.

انجبت بنت الشيخ مع بعلها الشيخ علي سيسي، بالشيخ حسن سيسي، اول سبط الشيخ ابراهيم،

The daughter of Sheikh Ibrahim Fatimah with her husband Ali Ciessey gave birth to the first grandson of Sheikh Ibrahim.

انجبت فاطمة بنت رسول الله سيدنا حسين، بعد تسعة اشهر من ولادة سيدنا حسن،

The daughter of the messenger of Allah Fatimah gave birth to Sayyidina Hussein, nine months after Sayyidna Hassan was born.

وهكذا فاطمة بنت الشيخ ابراهيم انياس، مع مريده الاكبر الشيخ على سيسي،

Same applies to Fatimah the daughter of Sheikh Ibrahim Niass, with his noble murid Sheikh Ali Ciessey.

ليس هذا الكرامة تعني المساوة، بل تبين كيفية تأثير الحبيب بالمحبوب، اذ لا يخفى حب الشيخ ابراهيم انياس للنبي صلى الله عليه وسلم.

This amazing miracle does not mean equality[of Prophet Muhammad to Sheikh Ibrahim, never] but it showcases how the love of the Prophet[PBUH] has had great impact in the life of the beloved. As the love of Sheikh Ibrahim towards the Prophet [PBUH] was not hidden.
He made this crystal clear in so many
poetic stanza.

And all his sons have the name Muhammad attached to their names. He also named four of his daughters the names of the four daughters of the Prophet as well.

One of them was:

:فآثرت حب المصطفى دون غيره*ولو أم كلثوم ولو كان مريم

I have prefered the love of the chosen (Prophet) than any other

Even if it were Ummu Kalthum or Maryam (his two daughters)

إذا سار خير الناس سرت وراءه*وإن حل يوما فالمسير بعيد

When the best of mankind walks i walk behind him

Where he stops i would also stop

هناك أمم وشعوب اليوم في الوضع الحالي الذي نحن فيه أمنيتها أن ترى المسلمين معدومين، وأن ترى الإسلام غير موجود، لكن الله لا يمكنهم من هذا ولن يحقق لهم أمانيهم الباطلة؛ لأنهم إذا أضلوا واحدا فسيخلق الله الهداية في قلوب الألوف. ولذلك لا يستطيعون لأن الله غالب على أمره.
ونحن لا نخافهم، ولا نخشاهم ولكن لا بد أن نأخذ حذرنا، الله تبارك وتعالى يقول{خذوا حذركم فاتفروا ثبات أو انفروا جميعا….} الآية… وما دام الله أمرنا بهذا نحن نكون دائما على حذر ونكون على أهبة الاستعداد لمواجهة التحدي بالعزيمة والإيمان وقوة اليقين. لا يمكن أبدا أصحاب الباطل أن يغلبوا أهل اليقين في دينهم ويقينهم به. لا يمكن أبدا أن يتغلبوا عليهم، لكن شرط النصر في هذا أن نتوحد، فإذا توحدنا واستحملنا بعضنا البعض وقاومنا بالعلم بعض جهل إخواننا، وباليقين شك بعضنا، وبالقوة في الإيمان ضعف بعضنا، فلو استطعنا أن نقاوم هذا وصبرنا عليه لا بد أن ننتصر.

May Allah protect this Ummah [Muslim Society] as far as it holds fast the noble Book of Allah [Al-Qur’an] & The Sunnah of the holy Prophet [PBUH]

There are societies and nations today in current situation that we are in. Their wishes is to see Muslim non-existent, and to see Islam not available. But that is impossible they are incapable, because Allah is always dominant over his affairs.

And we do not fear or afraid of them. But we have to be careful. Allah Almighty says: {Take your precaution repel firmly or repel entirely….} A verse…And so far as Allah authorized us with this, then we will always be cautious. We will be ready to face the challenge with determination and faith and the strength of certainty. It is not possible for the falsehood people to vanquish or win over the truthful people in the religion and their certitude with them.

It is not possible for them to conquer them. But the condition of victory in this is to unite, if we get united and hold unto to each other and we would be able to resist, in spite of the ignorance of our brothers. And some of our brothers doubted with certainty. And some of us were weakened with the strength of faith. So if we were to be able to straightened this and get patient on it, then there is no doubt that we will succeed.

هذا، وللأعداء أساليب كثيرة يشوهون بها الطريقة كالحشو وبعض العبارات المخالفة في كتب الطريقة فنحن نرفضها ونقول أننا لسنا مكلفون بهذا. أعناقنا حرة من هذا النوع لا نقبله. وإذا قرأنا كتب التفسير ووجدنا فيه بعض الإسرائيليات نقول، التفسير صحيح لكن هذه الإسرائيليات لا نقبلها. وإذا قرأنا كتب الحديث، وجدنا فيها الضعيف، وجدنا فيها المعضل، المنقطع الموضوع، المنكر، إذا وجدناه في الكتب، نقول نعم هذا حديث لكنه ضعيف، لكنه موضوع، لكنه منكر، لا نعمل به نتركه. والضعيف إذا عملنا به نعمل به على قاعدة العلماء في الترغيب،
والترهيب نعم، لكن في الحلال والحرام وفي العقائد نحتاج إلى أدلة أخرى أقوى، إلى متون أقوى.

This and for the enemies have many methodology, they defile and distort the Tariqah of Tijjaniyah with non-beneficial things and certain expressions violating the books of Tariqah. So we are rejecting it and we are saying, we are not mandated with it. Our necks are free from this kind [of things] we would not accept it. And if we read some books of exegesis we find weakness in them, we find problems in them. Its subject or theme is discontinuous…If we find this in books, we say yes, this a hadith but it is weak, it is maudu, but is munkir or rejected. We do not work with it, we leave it. And if we work with the weak hadith, we work with it upon the principles of scholars in enticement [to do good] and fearfulness[ to do evil], yes, but in halal[lawful] and haram [unlawful] and in creeds, we need other strongest proofs.…

وكذلك إذا نظرنا إلى فهم بعض العلماء، فيما يتعلق بالعقيدة ووجدناه مخالفا فنحن مع النص، نؤمن بالنص ونؤمن بأنه من الله، ونؤمن بأن له معنى عند الله، ولكن نحن برءآء من أي تفسير يخالف الحقائق. وإذا وجدنا آيات تصف الإله بما يوصف به الإنسان مثلا، أو وجدنا في الحديث هذا، فنحن نؤمن بأن الله تبارك وتعالى، ليس كمثله شيء. أما صفاتنا نحن؛ أيدي أرجل جسم، حركة، صعود، نزول، أمثالها كثيرة والله ليس كمثله شيء.
إذن فهذه الآيات مع أنها جاءت بهذه الألفاظ، نحن نعلم أنها حقا من عند الله، ونعلم أن الإيمان بها واجب، ونعلم أيضا أن لها معنى آخر، فوق أفهامنا عند الله. لم يكلفنا الله تبارك وتعالى، بأن نعتقد فيها الظاهر بعد أن قال لنا ليس كمثله شيء وهو السميع البصير.

And as well, if we observe the understanding of some scholars in regards to ideology, we find it contrary, so we are with the text or actual script, we believe in the script and believe that it is from Allah and we believe that it has a meaning from Allah. But we are innocent from any exegesis or analysis that contradicts the facts. And if we find verses that describe the Lord with what man is described for instance, or we find this in a hadith, then we believe that there is no one like Allah Almighty. But as for our description; hands, legs, body, movement, rising up, descending, their examples are numerous and there is nobody like Allah.

Then, these verse in spite of the fact that it came with these phrases, we know that it is truly from Allah and we know that believing in it is mandatory. And we also know that it has a different meaning with Allah beyond our understanding. Allah Almighty has not mandated that we have to apparently believe it after He told us He has no co-equal, He is the most hearing and seeing.

ومن هنا، فإننا نريد من المقدمين، ونريد من الأئمة أن يبذلوا قصارى الجهد، ونترك كلنا الكسل، ونقوم ونعمل بجدية، حتى يتوحد المريدون جميعا. أنا أعرف أن تلامذة الشيخ التجاني رضي الله عنه، مهما قالوا في شيوخهم إذا انجلى الحق لا بد أن يقبلوه. ويجب على إخواننا أن يتسامحوا، وأن يتفاهموا، وأن لا يخضعوا الطريقة للأهواء، إذا أرادوا أن يخضعوا لها لهم ذلك، ونحن نفرق بين الطريقة التجانية، والكتب المؤلفة فيها، كما أنك تعرف الفقه فيه كم كلمات مرجوحة، وعندما نقول الراجح أيضا يشترطون فيه معرفة من رجحه، والمشهور من شهره، ومن هم، ولأي سببب، وفي أي بلد، وفي أي زمن، هذه كلها شروط، هي تنقح المناط منها نصل إلى أن الحكم صدر بعد جد واجتهاد من العلماء، في الزمن كذا لعلة كذا.

And from here, we want among the Muqadams, and among the Imams to make every effort and for all of us to leave behind laziness, and rise up and work seriously, until the entire murids get united. I know that the students of Sheikh Tijjani may Allah be pleased with him, whatever they said in regards to their Sheikhs and whenever the truth appeared, they must embrace it(and reject the falsehood). And it is incumbent upon our brethren to be tolerable and understandable, and not to subject the Tariqah for their [persona] whims. If they want to subject it for their own whims, it is up to them, and we differentiate between the Tariqah of Tijjaniyah and the books written about it.

As you know in fiqh, there are statements that are rejected, because there are proofs stronger than them. And when we say they stipulate in it knowledge from the most preferable[as a means of proof]. And the widely known view from its prominence. And who are they, and what is the reason and in which country and which period? All these are conditions, which open the way for us to reach the ruling that emerged after dedication and diligence of the scholar in so and so time period due to so and so fault.

ثم إن كثيرا من الناس يفهمون أن من دخل الطريقة يستغني عن تعلم الفقه والتوحيد، وهذا خطأ كبير؛ لأنك تبني كل خير على الأساس المتين، دينك، العقيدة، الشريعة، قواعد السلوك، هذه أشياء ثبتت بالكتاب والسنة، وما تفعله أنت من أوراد وأذكار وسلوك، وخلوات ورياضات، تطوعات خيرية مبنية على الأساس المتين، من الكتاب والسنة، لكن ليست دينا آخر، ليس معنى أنك دخلت في الطريقة الصوفية أنه لا يكون لك إهتمام بالتوحيد، وليست لك دعوى بالفقه أو العلوم الشرعية أو الطرق الأخرى..

Then many people think that whoever enters the Tariqah is above or does not need to study fiqh [Jurisprudence] and tawhid [Oneness of Allah]. And this is a big mistake, because you build every goodness or benevolence on solid foundation. Your deen [religion], ideology, sharia, basics of moral conducts, these things are confirmed by the Qur’an and Sunnah. And what you do of aurad, azkar [litany] and moral conducts, and [khalwah] where you seclude yourself and [riyadah] and where you engage yourself in khalwah- supplication and invocation of the names of Allah, undertaking voluntary acts of benevolence, built on solid foundation from the Qur’an and Sunnah, but not a different [strange] religion. So it does not mean that when you enter into the Sufi Tariqah you would not pay attention to tawhid [Oneness of Allah], and you do not learn from fiqh, or the knowledge of the sharia or different Tariqah.

نحن نحترم الطرق الأخرى، ونحترم الأولياء الآخرين، وليس بشرط أن أسلك طريقة أخرى، فأنا إذا أكلت في بيتنا وشبعت ليس بشرط أن أذهب إلى جاري وآكل من طعامه، لكن نحترم الأولياء ونعظمهم، ولكن كل الأولياء في الحقيقة، أنهم لا يبتعدون عن الكتاب والسنة. الصوفية والتصوف ليسوا أضداد للإسلام، وليست هي مخالفة إنما هي قسائم في العمل الصالح لكنها كلها واحدة.

We respect and revere other Tariqahs, and respect and revere other Awliyah[saints of Allah]. And it is not a condition for me to adopt a different Tariqah. So if I eat and get satiated or satisfied in our home, it is not a condition for me to go to the house of my neighbor and eat his food. But we revere Awliyah and respect them. But all Awliyah in reality do not distance themselves or deviate from Qur’an and Sunnah. The Sufis and Sufism are not the opposite [or contrary] of Islam. And it is not a violation but rather divisions in the process of good deeds, but all are one and the same.

الصوفية كلهم تجانية أو غير تجانية كلهم إما أشاعرة، أو ماتريدية، وكلهم إما مالكية، أو شافعية، أو أحناف أو حنابلة، غير الجماعة التي شذت في الحنابلة ممن خالفوا الناس فتشددوا وزودوا وحرفوا وبدلوا وكفروا. فهؤلاء ليست لنا بهم دعوى. فالتصوف لا يمنعنا.

The Sufis are all Tijjaniyans or non Tijjaniyans, all of them are either Asha’erah or Matiridiyah. And all of them are either Malikiyah, Shafi’eyah, Hanafiyah or Hambaliyah schools of thought. Not the group that deviated in the Hanbali school of thought and they
brought about strictness, they distorted and added and changed and disbelieved. So for those people, we do not have any claim with them. So tawssawuf does not prevent us[from dealing with them].

وأنتم أهل الطريقة، وأنتم أهل الفقه وأنتم أهل التوحيد وأنتم أهل التصوف والولاية. والطريقة التجانية هي كما قلنا الأوراد، والباقي تصوف، فإذا وجدناه في كتب الطريقة عنده شرر إما نطفيه وإما ننقيه. كما إذا وجدنا مسألة مثلا، في الفقه أن نستطيع أن نتوقف عندها مثلا، القبض مشهور الخلاف والتردد في القبض وكذا، يعني يقض لماذا لكذا وكذا مما ذكر ذلك صاحب المختصر، لكن لما وجدنا الأحاديث النبوية كلها قبض قبضنا، لكن نحن لا نعترض على السادل، فلا نقول له صلاتك باطلة ولا نكفره، مثل ما قال عبد الرحمن الإفريقي كل من أسدل يديه في الصلاة كافر، نحن لا نقول هذا. هو مسلم واختار طريقته لا شيء في ذلك.
لأنه لا أحد قال أن القبض ركن من أركان الصلاة، بحيث لو فقد فسدت الصلاة، ولكنها فضل من الفضل الإلهي لأنك تمسكت في تسننك وزدت سنة وحافظت عليها، فلك أجرها. كذلك في التوحيد هناك مسائل كثيرة، العالم في الحديث، العالم في التفسير يأخذ شيئا ويترك شيئا.

And you the people of Tariqah, and you the people of fiqh, and you the people of tawhid, and you the people of tasawwuf and wilayah, Tariqah of Tijjaniyah as we said are made up of aurad, and the rest is tasawwuf. If we find it in the books of Tariqah. It has triggers or incentives, either cleaned or cleansed. Like for instance when we are confronted with a question in fiqh, to be able to stop over it.

For instanc, holding forearms in prayer is a widely known controversy. And there have been hesitations in this issue of [qabd] meaning, he holds forearms for what reason, for so and so, as part of what the author of mukhtasar mentioned. However, when we find in all the ahadith of the Prophet [PBUH] he had folded his forearms [on the chest in prayer], then we did the same. But we do not object to the one who releases his forearms [in prayer]. So we do not say your prayer is invalid, neither do we call him a non-believer, as one Abdul Rahaman Al-Ifriqee said: “Whoever releases his arms in prayer is a non-believer”. We do not say that. He he is Muslim, and has chosen his Tariqah or school of thought and there is nothing wrong with that.

Because there is no one that said, folding of forearms is a part of the conditional factors of accepting prayer, where if he lost that the prayer is invalid. But it is a virtue among the virtues of Allah, because by so doing you holdfast on to the Sunnah and added a Sunnah and preserved it, so you have its reward. Likewise in tawhid, there are many issues that a scholar in hadith and a scholar in tafsir just picks up something in and leaves other things.

الخاتمة

نسأل الله لكم التوفيق، ووحدة الصف حتى نواجه هذا الخطر الموجه لأمة نبينا سيدنا محمد صلى الله عليه وسلم، في هذا الزمن. وبهذه المناسبة العظيمة يسعدنا أن نرفق مع هذه الكلمة قائمة لبعض الكتب التي كتبت في الدفاع عن الإسلام بمقاماته الثلاثة حتى يتسلح المريدون بالعلم الكافي للوقوف سدا منيعا في وجه الهجمة الشرسة التي تستهدف بيضة الإسلام، وتستهدف مقدساته ورموزه. والله ولي التوفيق.

Conclusion

We ask Allah success for you and unison of the row or lines [in our prayer and other acts of worship], until we face [conquer] this danger facing the ummah of our Prophet [PBUH] in this [contemporary] period. And upon this great occasion, it is pleasing for me to add this statement enlisted in some books that I wrote in defending Islam with three status, until the murids would be armed with enough knowledge to stand and protect and immune the fierce attacks that are targeted against the egg of Islam [as it appears weak in the sight of its enemies] and targeted its sanctities and symbols…Allah is the One who grants success.

كلكم تعلمون أن الطريقة التجانية، عبارة عن أذكار، وهذه الأذكار والأوراد، كلها مضمنة في كتاب الله العزيز، أولها: الاستغفار:{ فقلت استغفروا ربكم إنه كان غفارا} { فاعلم أنه لا إله إلا الله، واستغفر لذنبك وللمؤمنين}. ربنا تبارك وتعالى لم يجعل مخلوقا يخترع هذا اللفظ الذي هو ” أستغفر الله” والدنيا لا تعرف الاستغفار إلا لما جاء الرسول عليه الصلاة والسلام:{وما كان الله ليعذبهم وأنت فيهم وما كان الله ليعذبهم وهم يستغفرون}.

What is [Tariqah] the Path of Tijjaniyah?

All of you know that Tariqatul Tijjaniyah means [azkar] or remembrance of Allah. And all these azkar and aurad are embedded in the noble Book of Allah [Al-Qur’an]. The first is: [Istigfar], seeking for forgiveness: {Say [Muhammad] seek for forgiveness of your Lord for he is forgiven}. {And know that, He [Allah is one], there is no god except him, and seek for forgiveness of your sin and for the sins of the believers. Our Lord Almighty has never made us to invent this phrase which is “astagfiru Lah”, and the world never knew “astagfiru Lah”, until when the Prophet [PBUH] emerged. {Allah would not punish them while you are among them and Allah would not punish them while they are seeking for forgiveness”.
إذن أساسا نحن مأمورون بالاستغفار؛ مأمورون به من الله، مأمورون به من رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم، فإذا جاء ولي من الأولياء منَّ الله عليه بالترقي في مقامات الشريعة، والطريقة والحقيقة، حتى وصل إلى مستوى المراقبة والمشاهدة والمعرفة، ثم كساه الله بثوب المحبة لرسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم، ثم نتج عن ذلك أن يلقى رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم، في حالة غيبية ويتلقى عنه المدد، ويخبرنا بأنه تلقى عن رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم، هذا الشيء نحن نعلم أنه تلقاه في اليقظة، لأان كل شيء في القرآن تلقيناه عن رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم، في اليقظة.

So fundamentally, we were commanded with istigfar, we were commanded with it by Allah, we were commanded with it by the messenger of Allah [PBUH]. So when a waliy [a friend of Allah] comes with [taraqqi] divine advancement in the status of the sharia and tariqah and haqiqah [divine reality], until he reaches the level of [muraqabah] divine surveillance [munazarah] viewing [through the mind’s eye] and divine knowledge, then Allah shrouds him with the cloth of love towards the messenger of Allah [PBUH] and that results in seeing the Prophet [PBUH] in the metaphysical [mental] state and he grants him [madad] or representation, that he had received from the messenger of Allah [PBUH].

But we know that he has received this thing in the awaken[non dream] state, because everything from the Qur’an we have received it from the messenger of Allah [PBUH] in an awaken state.

ساداتنا قرأوا القرآن في اليقظة، الصحابة تلقوه في اليقظة، التابعين تلقوه في اليقظة، مشايخنا من سلاسل القراء إلى أن نأتي إلى آخر سيد، أو آخر معلم نقرأ عليه القرآن، من فاتحة الكتاب إلى الناس، في اليقظة وليس في النوم، فإذا قال هذا الولي أني أخذت هذا الدين كله عن رسول الله، في اليقظة لا في المنام، لماذا نكذبه؟ إذا غفل الناس، فهذا لم يغفل. علم أنه يتلقى عن شيخه ويعرف أن شيخه لا حول ولا قوة له في هذا الأمر، إنما يأخذ لك عن رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم، لأن شيخه، لو قال له أن هذا الشيء مخالف لدين رسول الله، لن يدخل فيه.
والتجاني لم يقلدها أحد بتكليف إلا الله، ولم يقلدها بتكليف أو بتوجيه غير رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم،.

Our masters have read the Qur’an in an awaken state, the companions received it in an awaken state, the generation after the companions received it in an awaken state. Our Sheikhs [have received it] from the chains of reciters until we reached the last master or last teacher that we recite the Qur’an from, from suratul Fatiha to suratul Nass in an awaken state not in a dream.

So if this waliy said he had received this entire religious rituals from the messenger of Allah in an awaken state not a dream, why should we disclaim him [as not true]? If people forgot, he does not forget. He kows that he has received [it] from his Sheikh and he has no strategy nor strength in this issue.

But rather, it was received from the messenger of Allah [PBUH], because if his Sheikh [Tijjani] has told him that this thing is contrary to the religion of Allah [Islam], he would not have embraced it. And no one imitates a Tijjaniyah fellow by force but only the guidance of Allah. And no one enforces him to imitate or seek guidance but only through the messenger of Allah [PBUH].

إذن نحن التجانيون كغيرنا من المسلمين، أحرار عن تكليف كل شيء غير الله، وغير رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم. منهجنا القرآن، إرشاداتنا كلها؛ منابع هدينا كلها من سنة رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم، صفاء قلوبنا وتزكية نفوسنا، كلها مأخوذة من كتاب الله، ومن سنة رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم.
يقول الله تبارك وتعالى:{هو الذي بعث في الأميين رسولا منهم يتلو عليهم آياته ويزكيهم ويعلمهم الكتاب والحكمة…} الآية.. فإذا كان الرسول صلى الله عليه وسلم، من خلال هذه الوظائف الأربعة أو الخمس، متلقيا لذلك من الله، وهو عمله، إذن جاءنا به لنعمل به.

So, we the Tijjaniyans like other Muslims are free from entrusting in everything except Allah and the messenger of Allah [PBUH], our methodology is Al-Qur’an. All our guidelines, all our sources of guidance is the Sunnah of the messenger of Allah[PBUH], the purity of our hearts and the clarity of our souls all are driven from the Book of Allah and the Sunnah of the messenger of Allah[PBUH] Allah Almighty says: {He was the One who sent a messenger among the unlettered [people] he was[ the messenger] reciting his verses onto them and purifying them. While he was teaching them the Book and wisdom…} up to the end of the verse…So if the messenger of Allah was amidst these four or five duties receiving it from Allah, that was his duty.. So he brought it to us to work with it.

ثم ماذا بعد الإستغفار الذي هو بمثابة الوضوء. إذا أردت أن تصلي تتطهر ثم بعد ذلك إذا أردت أن تدخل فتحتاج إلى مفتاح وهذا المفتاح هو رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم، فتتوسل به تصلي عليه،{ إن الله وملائكته يصلون على النبي ……}لا تدخل البيت إلا بالمفتاح، ثم تفتح بهذا وتدخل داخل البيت. والمراد بالبيت هنا رضوان الله وحضرته وطاعته، وعندما تصل إلى مقام داخل البيت، لا يمكن أن تشهد أن مخلوقا آخر يستطيع أن يفعل أو يترك، أو يأمر أو ينهى، أو يفعل شيئا أو يقرر شيئا، إلا الله.

Then what is next after istigfar is like performing wudu or ablution if you want to pray you purify [yourself] then after which if you want to enter, you need a key and this key is the messenger of Allah[PBUH], so you make [tawassul] or beseech with him by making (salat) b to him, {Verily, Allah and his angels are sending their felicitations to the Prophet…..} You do not enter the house unless with the key, then you open with this and enter inside the house. And what is meant by the house here is the pleasure of Allah his presence and his obedience. And when you reach inside the house, it is not possible to testify that a different person can do or leave or command or forbid, or he does something or determines something, but only Allah.

ولذلك تطلع في قلبك بازغة الكلمة الطيبة ” لا إله إلا الله” لأنك لا تستطيع أن تقول في حق الله شيئا آخر، لا معبود بحق إلا الله، لا خالق إلا الله، ولا رازق إلا الله، لا حول لأحد إلا الله، ولا قوة لأحد إلا الله. ولذلك هذه الطريقة، هذه هي اذكارها، أولا: الاستغفار، وثانيا: الصلاة على النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم، وثالثا: لا إله إلا الله {فاعلم أنه لا إله إلا الله}.
ومن هنا فإن مشايخنا دائما يقولون أن هذه الطريقة هي أصلا مبنية على دائرة الفضل الربانية، فهي طريقة محض الفضل، تعتمد على فضل الله ورضوانه. ثم بعد ذلك تعتمد على ما أخذته من الكتاب والسنة، مبنية على الكتاب والسنة، ولذلك حتى في شروطها لما تعطى، فإن الشيخ يعطي المريد ويقول له: أذنت لك في كذا وكذا وكذا على شروط الطريقة المقررة، ما هي هذه الشروط؟ الموافقة لكتاب الله، وسنة رسوله صلى الله عليه وسلم.

Therefore, an emerging purified word gets implanted in your heart, “La Ilaha Illa Lah”, “There is no god but Allah”, because you cannot say anything about the right of Allah. There is no god worthy of sincere worship except Allah. And there is no sustainer but Allah, there is no ability for anyone but Allah. And there is no strength for anyone but Allah. Therefore this Tariqah is its azkar, first: Istigfar, second: salatu alah Nabbiyi[s.a.w] and third: La Ilaha Ila Lah {So know that there is no god but Allah}.

And from here, our Sheikhs always say, that this Tariqah is originally built upon the circle of divine virtue. It is aTariqah of pure virtue, dependent on the virtue of Allah and his pleasure. Then after which, it depends on what you obtain from the Qur’an and Sunnah, which is built upon the Qur’an and Sunnah. And it is like that even in its given rules. Verily, Sheikh gives murid and says to him: I have granted you a permit for so so and so upon the rules of determined Tariqah. What are these rules? In harmony with the Book of Allah and Sunnah of the messenger of Allah [PBUH].

سمع الشيخ التجاني رضي الله عنه، تلامذته يذكرون وخرجوا بذكرهم عن الأدب المقبول، فقال مستنكرا: أي شيء هذا؟ أي شيء هذا؟ ” لا إله إلا الله” كأنهم كسروا في لا إله إلا الله، عملوها مثل الغنى فقال لهم: لا إله إلا الله لا إله إلا الله، تذكرون الله كما أمر .
ثم إنكم كلكم علماء وتعلمون أن الشيخ عندما يتحدث عن الفقه وكتب الفقه، ذكر كم تمنى أن يقيض الله لهذه الكتب أن ينقيها من الحشو الذي فيها، ما هو الحشو الذي في كتب الفقه؟ هذا الحشو اليوم أشرف وأنقى وأفضل من الأباطيل التي ألحقت بالعقيدة، وألحقت بالشريعة، وألحقت بالسلوك، ومع ذلك طلب الشيخ رضي الله عنه، بأن تنقح كتب الفقه من هذا حتى تتطابق مع أوامر الله وتشريعاته وأوامر رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم وسنته.

Sheikh Tijani may Allah be pleased with him heard his students making zikir and they violated the acceptable code of ethics with their zikir. He then said denouncing: What is this? What is this? “La Ilaha Illa Lah”, as if they have broke the rules of “La Ilaha Ila Lah”. They performed it like songs and he said to them: “La Ilaha Illa Lah”, you recite it as it was commanded [to be recited].

Then all of you are scholars and you know that when Sheikh is talking about fiqh, and books of fiqh, he mentioned how he wished for Allah to assess for these books and cleanse anything in it which has no use. What is the non-useful thing which was written in the books of fiqh? And today’s non-useful thing is most gracious and purest and it is better than the falsehood that was inflicted by ideology, and inflicted by sharia, and inflicted by behavior.

And in spite of that, Sheikh [Ibrahim] may Allah be pleased with him requested for the books of fiqh to be opened about this [issue], so that it would matched up with the commands of Allah and his legislation as well as the commands of the messenger of Allah [PBUH] and his Sunnah.

ولذلك هذه الطريقة مبنية على اليقين، مبنية على الحق، أعداؤها فليقولوا ما شاءوا، غير المسلمين يعتبرون الإسلام بقرآنه، والإسلام بسنته وبنبيه، كلهم في ضلال، لكن الرسول الكريم صلوات الله وسلامه عليه أغلق الباب وقال: {لكم دينكم ولي ديني}.أغلق الباب دونهم ولم يدخل معهم في نقاش. كان إمامنما مالك رضي الله عنه، إذا جاءه شخص وقال له نريد أن نتجادل، أي نتنازع لنبين الصواب، يعني تعرف الجدل والمناظرة تأتي بحجتك وآتي بحجتي أنا ,وإياك ننظر في العقيدة ونتكلم فيها، فمالك يقول له : لا. روح وابحث لك عن واحد يشك في دينه واشتغل معه أما أنا فعلى يقين من ديني، فلماذا أجادلك على ما لا يعنيني، أنا على يقين، ما دمت أنت تشك في دينك اذهب وابحث لك عن واحد يشك في دينه مثلك، لذلك نحن لا ندخل معهم في نزاع.

Therefore this Tariqah is built on certainty, built on reality. Its enemies are saying what they want. Non-Muslims think through Islam with its Qur’an, and think through Islam with its Sunnah and its Prophet [PBUH]. All of them are in delusion, but the holy Prophet [PBUH] (through the divine command) had closed the door and said: {To you belong your religion and to us belong ours}. He has closed the door beneath them and he would not enter any discussion between them]. Our Imam Malik may Allah be pleased with him, if a person comes to him and says to him we want to argue, that is to dispute in order to show the right thing. Meaning to know the controversy and debate, you bring your proof and I bring mine. And beware, we will look at ideology and speak about it. So Imam Malik would tell him: No, I will search for you the one who doubts in his faith and I will engage him. But as for me, I am very certain in my faith, so why should I argue with you in what does not concern me. I am very certain, if you still doubt about your faith, then go and look for the one who also doubts about his faith like you, that is why we do not enter into argument with them.

ضرورة رجوع الزوايا إلى ما كانت عليه
من الاستقامة والهدى والرشاد

نحن اليوم نعيش في عصر انتهت فيه فاعلية العمل الفردي. وإذا كان العمل الدنيوي الآن يعتمد التكتلات والتجمعات وسيلة للنجاح لتحقيق جميع الأهداف الدنيوية سياسيا واقتصاديا وعسكريا، وثقافيا، فإنه من باب أولى لقادة الزوايا أن يتحدوا ويعملوا بتسيق كامل بينهم لتحقيق الهدف الأسمى من إنشاء الزوايا، وهو العمل بمقتضى دين الإسلام ونشره بمقاماته الثلاثة بالحكمة والموعظة الحسنة.

Necessity of the returning zawaiyas on to what they used to be of righteousness, guidance and direction

Today, we live in an era where the effectiveness of individual action has expired. And if the worldly action now depends on conglomerates or corporations and groupings as a means of success to achieve overall worldly objective, politically, economically, militarily, culturally[educationally], then it is of priority for the leadership of zawaiyas to unite and work with full coordination between them in order to achieve the nominal objective for creating the zawiyas, which is working under the banner of Islamic faith and spreading it, with its three status, with wisdom and good preaching.

فالذي يعمل بمفرده في خضم هذه التحديات المعاصرة لا يستطيع أبدا أن ينجو ولا يستطيع أن يُنجي، ولذلك وجب علينا أن نعمل بقول الله تبارك وتعالى:{ وتعاونوا على البر والتقوى} ولا بد من تحكيم قول الله تبارك وتعالى :{ يا أيها الذين آمنوا اتقوا الله حق تقاته، ولا تموتن إلا وأنتم مسلمون، …ولا تفرقوا.} الآية.
والله يقول: { ولا تنازعوا…..الصابرين} الآية.

So for the one who works individually amid this contemporary challenges would not be able to succeed and would not be able to save [others]. That is why it is incumbent upon us to work according to the statement of Allah Almighty that: {And collaborate together towards righteousness and piety}.

وفي الحقيقة، فإن العمل الفردي قد يبنبي شخصية الفرد، وينميها ولكنه لا يستطيع أن يتصدى لكافة التحديات التي تحيط، ولكافة التيارات المعاكسة التي تسلط دائما على المسلم أو على المسلمين، أو على العمل الثابت الذي يحمي الثوابت وينميها في أعماق أفراد هذه الأمة. لهذا السبب وجب علينا أن نعمل جميعا كما أمرنا الله تعالى:{ واعتصموا بحبل الله جميعا ولا تفرقوا} الآية.. وكلمة جميعا لم تأت سدى وإنما جاءت لمغزى نحن كلنا في حاجة إليه..

And in reality, individualistic effort builds individual’s personality and develops it. But it cannot address the entire challenges that surrounds it and the adverse tidal waves or currents that fixates or preoccupies a Muslim or Muslims. Or upon a fixed action that protects so many immovables and develops it in the depths of the individuals of this umah or religion. So because of this reason it is incumbent upon us all as Allah Almighty commanded us: {And hold fast onto the rope of Allah together and do not be divided} A verse…And the entire statement did not come in vain, but it rather came meaningfully that we are in need of it…

كان المفروض أن تكون الزوايا التجانية كلها يدا واحدة، لكن لم يرد الله ذلك. والذي وقع يختلف عن هذا. وسببه أن قادة هذه الزوايا لم يكونوا على مستوى واحد من العلم والمعرفة والإخلاص. فالناس يتفاوتون مثل أن تجد ثلاثة، أو أربعة، أشخاص يتغطون، ببطانية واحدة كل واحد يحاول أن يجرها إليه. فهو لا يريد أن يرمي الناس عن السرير، ولا يريد أن يؤذيهم لكن لا يريد أن يضر نفسه. ولذلك وجدنا مشاكل في زوايانا التجانية مع أن الطريقة التجانية هي أساسا طريقة مبنية على الكتاب والسنة.

It was compulsory for the zawiyas of Tijaniya to be united on a common front, but Allah does not wills that. And what happened is contrary to that. And its reason is that, the leadership of these zawiyas are not on the same wave length of intellect, knowledge and sincerity. So people vary as you get three, or four people covering with one cover trying to pull it towards him. And he does not want to throw people on the bed. And he does not want to hurt him, but he does not want to harm himself. That is why we had problems in our zawiyas of Tijjaniya, while the Tariqah of Tijjaniyah is built upon the Qur’an and Sunnah.

حكم استخدام المعازف في الذكر والمديح

أما بالنسبة للآلات الموسيقية التي تسخدم في الذكر، فإن العزف عموما أبيح في بعض الأحيان. فمثلا، أثناء استقبال عظيم من العظماء أو عند الخروج إلى الجهاد، أو عند الرجوع من الجهاد، أو في أيام المواسم/ المناسبات الإسلامية كصلاة العيدين، وكذلك عند الزواج فالضرب على الموسيقي في هذه الحالات مباح بشرط عدم اختلاط النساء بالرجال…وهو في وقته المحدد فقط، لا أن يتخذ حرفة للإستمرار فيها. والدليل على إباحة ذلك عند استقبال عظيم من العظماء هو عندما جاء الرسول صلى الله عليه وسلم، إلى المدينة، فقد استقبله الأنصار بالأناشيد مثل طلع البدر علينا… إلخ
ومثل: هل علي ويحكم إذا لهوت من حرج، فأجابها النبي عليه الصلاة والسلام بقوله: “لا حرج لا حرج” ويقلن أيضا:
نحن جواري من بني النجار يا حبذا محمدا من جار
وأما عند الزواج فأهل المدينة كانوا يضربون الدفوف ويغنون
أتيناكم أتيناكم فحيونا نحييكم
ولولا الحبة السمراء لما سمنت جواريكم
وهذا كله يحدث وقت الزواج فقط للإعلام بأن بنت فلان زوجت لابن فلان، وذلك للتفريق بين الزنى والزواج المشروع.
أما بالنسبة للطريقة التجانية فليس فيها عزف وموسيقى، ولا علاقة للطريقة التجانية إطلاقا بآلات العزف والموسيقى. وعندما قال الشيخ التجاني رضي الله عنه: “إن السماع لمقلة إنسانها ابن الجابر”
هذه القصيدة التي يستشهد بها البعض لتبرير الموسيقى، فهذا وقته عند إشهار الزواج كما قلنا، خارج المسجد وهؤلاء ينشدون وإذا انتهوا يعطونهم المال ثم يذهبون فهؤلاء ليسوا من أهل الطريقة، مثل ما يفعله الناس اليوم من دعوة بعض الشعراء أو المغنين عند الزواج يأتون وينشدون وبعد الانتهاء ينصرفون. فهنا أنت لم تشرع شيئا في الدين ولم تستن سنة من السنن.

However, in regards to musical instruments that are utilized in zikir[litany], musical performance are allowed in certain instances. For example, in the midst of welcoming great personalities, or where they would depart for war, or when returning to the war, or during seasonal periods/ Islamic occasions such as two eid prayers, and also during marriage ceremonies.

So the use of musical instruments in these situations are allowed, on condition that, women and men would not mingle with each other….And it is only within its specific period, it would not be taken as a reason for persisting on it. And the prove in regards to the permissibility of this when welcoming a great personality is during the arrival of the Prophet [PBUH] to Madinah. The tribe of Al-Ansar had welcome him with songs like, [Tala’al badru ‘Alaina]….The moon has appeared upon us….to the end.
And like:…Would there be a stringent woe on me if i have fun(a woman askedvthe Prophet (PBUH)…., and the Prophet[PBUH] answered her saying, “there is no problem, there is no problem”. And they would also say:

We are maids from Banil Najjar….O what a preferable neighbor is Muhammad

But during marriage ceremonies, the people of Madinah used to beat drums and sing:
We have come to you we have come to you
So greet us as we greet you

If it weren’t the brown grains(you grow)
Your maids would not have gotten fat (put on weight)

And all these happen only during marriage ceremonies for publicity that the daughter of so and so is married to the son of so and so. And that is to distinguish between fornication and legitimate marriage.

أما الطريقة التجانية فجميع أورادها وأذكارها ليست لها علاقة على الإطلاق بهذه الأمور وغيرها من آلات اللهو والموسيقى. وهذه الأغاني بدأها الأنانيون، أعتقد أن هناك قليلا من تلاميذ الشيخ في دولة غانا، بدأوها ثم انتشرت من هناك، إلى أماكن أخرى. علما بأن الشيخ رضي الله عنه عاش طوال حياته ولم يجمع في يوم من الأيام التلامذة لضرب الموسيقى له ليسمع.
وأما يقال أنه موجود في الطريقة القادرية فإن الشيخ عبد القادر الجيلاني نفسه قد برأ نفسه من هذا، ذكر ذلك في كتابه، ” سر الأسرار” فقد بين في هذا الكتاب حيث قال:” لا يجوز ذكر الله مع الموسيقى” فليراجع هناك، ونحن لا نتهم إخواننا القادريين ولكننا نقول إنه ليست له علاقة بما يجري من ضرب الدفوف عند الذكر. وهناك العديد من أهل الطرق يفعلونه ولكنه ليس وردا ولا عبادة. قد منع هذا في الطريقة التجانية. وكل من فعل ذلك يعتبر مخالفا للشيخ التجاني رضي الله عنه، ومخالف لشروط طريقته، ويعتبر من الكاذبين على الشيخ التجاني رضي الله عنه.
ومن يريد أن يمدح الرسول صلى الله عليه وسلم، فله ذلك ولكن لا تستخدم الموسيقى فأسلافنا مثل كعب بن زهير، وحسان بن ثايت كالشيخ يوسف النبهاني، والإمام أحمد البوصيري، وغيرهم رضي الله عنهم، قد مدحوا الرسول صلى الله عليه وسلم ولكن لم يستعملوا الآلات الموسيقية.
ولذلك ننصح بالابتعاد عن كل هذه الأشياء، ومن ذلك الرقص في الذكر فهو أيضا لا يجوز. وما يفعله بعض المجاذيب لا يعتد به ولا يؤخذ على أنه من الطريق، وإذا كان له إعتبار في الطريق لكتب ذلك مثلا تحت عنوان: ” باب الرقص في الذكر” وقد بينا هذه الأحكام أيضا في آخر كتابنا ” النهج الحميد” فليراجع هناك.
فإذا كان المريد في حالة الذكر اعتورته حالة أخرجته من حسه فهذا شيء آخر، ولا يطعن فيه لأنها حالة عارضة غير دائمة. أما الذي يجعل من الذكر لهوا فهذا لا يجوز لأن الله لا يتعبد باللهو. ومن هنا، فإن ما يفعله بعض المجاذيب لا تعتبر من قواعد الطريق أو شروطها، وقد بينت كتب الطريقة هذه الأحكام كلها: كالدرة الخريدة، للعلامة النظيفي، فقد منع حتى ضرب الأرض بالأرجل عند الذكر فضلا عن التصفيق. وهؤلاء المجاذيب إن كانوا في ذلك صادقين مع الله، فلا كلام لنا عليهم. وإن كانوا يفعلون ذلك رياء وسمعة وكذبا، فحسابهم على الله.
وأما الظاهرة المتفشية الآن في الموالد من ضرب الموسيقى لدرجة أختفاء الذكر والمديح فأمر لا يجوز وهو زيغ عن منهج أهل الهدى والرشاد، وينبغي أن يمنعوا من ذلك.

However, in regards to Tariqatul Tijjaniyah, THERE IS NO PLAY OR MUSIC. And there is absolutely NO link between PLAY and MUSICAL INSTRUMENTS IN THE TARIQAH OF TIJJANIYAH. And when Sheikh Tijjani may Allah be pleased with him said: “Verily, the hearing is an eyeball of the personality of Ibnul Jabir”.

This is a poetry that some people try to justify for allowing music [in the Tariqah], but this is only applicable during marriage ceremonies as we said, outside the mosque and those would be singing and when they finished they would be given money and then they would leave.

So those are not part of the followers of the Tariqah, like what people are doing today of inviting some singers and musicians at their marriage ceremonies where they would come and sing. And when they finish they leave. So here you would not legislate or set upon anything in the religion and have to enacted a sunnah among sunnahs or religious traditions.

However, as for Tariqah of Tijjaniyah, all its awrad and litany has absolutely no link with these issues and its likes of musical instruments and fun. And these songs were started by people who are individualistic and egoistic I believe that there are few students[murids] of Sheikh may Allah be pleased with him in Ghana who started it and it spread from there to other places, knowing that Sheikh [Ibrahim] during his life time has never gathered his students [murids] even a single day in his life to play music and drums for him to listen.

But as for what is being said that it is found in the Tariqah of Qadiriyah, Sheikh Abdul Qadir Jailani himself has exonerated himself from this. He mentioned that in his book, “Sirrul Asraar”, “Secret of Secrets”. In fact, he has clarified in this book where he said: “It is not possible to remember Allah with music”, so [anyone in doubt] should reference that point.

And we do not accuse our Qadiriyah brothers, but we only say that it has no co-relation between what happens in regards to beating of drums during zikir. And there are numerous of the people of Tariqah who are doing it. But it neither wird nor worship. In fact, this was prohibited in the Tariqah of Tijjaniyah. And whoever did that is considered a violator of[the command of ] Sheikh Tijjani may Allah be pleased with him.

And whoever wants to eulogize the messenger of Allah [PBUH] is at liberty to do that, but he should not use musical instrument. So our past generations like Ka’b bun Zuhair and Hassan bun Thabit, like Yusif Al-Nabhani, Imam Ahmed Al-Busiri and others..may Allah be pleased with them have eulogized the messenger of Allah [PBUH] but have never used musical instruments.

So based on this, we hereby advise for the need to keep distance from all these things. And part of it is dancing in the midst of zikir, which is also not permissible. And what is done by some [majazeeb] hallucinatory people is not significant and would not be considered as part and parcel of the Tariqah. And if it had any consideration in the Tariqah, he (Sheikh) would have written that under the topic: “A Lesson on Dancing in Zikir”. And in fact, we have analyzed these rulings again in the latter part of our book, “Manhajil Majeed”, “Humane Approach”, so refer to it.

So if a murid is in the process of zikir, and he gets got distracted, then this is a different thing all together, he would not be criticized for it, because it is just once in a while not every time.

However, as for the one who makes an amusement, that is not permissible, because Allah is not worshipped with fun and amusement. And from here, what some [majazeen] hallucinatory people do is not considered part of the principles of Tariqah or its conditions.

In fact the books of Tariqah have clarified all these rules, like “Duratul Khareedah” for the scholar Al-Nazifi.
It it prohibited even beating the ground with one’s legs during zikir, as well as clapping of hands. And those [majazeeb] hallucinatory people if only they are truthful[sincere] with Allah, we have nothing to say to them. And if they are doing that hypocritically, or for fame or just faking it, then their judgements belongs to Allah.

But as for what is apparently rampant now at the various maulids of drumming and dancing to the extent of overshadowing zikir and eulogies, it is an issue that is not permissible. It is an obstruction from the path of the followers of guidance and straight path and there is the need for them to be prevented from doing that.
