Who we are
Established 2013 · Founded by Prof. Ibrahim Ahmad Maqary
Tazkiyah Educational Resource Centre (TERC) is a non-profit, non-governmental organization that was founded in 2013 by Prof. Ibrahim Ahmad Maqary, dedicated to promoting education, community awareness, and peaceful coexistence. The Centre believes that true progress comes from giving people access to quality learning opportunities, encouraging the exchange of ideas, and supporting both personal and intellectual growth. By removing barriers to education, TERC works to uplift individuals and strengthen communities.
To bring this vision to life, TERC has built a strong network of community schools across Nigeria. This includes over 30 "Tazkiyah Schools" across 12 states, which are specifically designed to make quality education affordable and accessible to everyone, regardless of their social or economic background. In addition, TERC runs "Madarisu Tazkiyah," an expansive network of over 50 Islamic schools nationwide that focus on guiding young Muslims to become positive thinkers, tolerant individuals, and responsible citizens.
Beyond the classroom, TERC is deeply committed to supporting vulnerable groups and driving social change. Through the "Tazkiyah Orphans Support Initiative," the organization sponsors the primary and secondary education of more than 2,500 orphans across all states in Nigeria.
TERC also places a strong emphasis on women's empowerment, offering educational and professional support to help women take their rightful place as leaders in community development and nation-building — it recently established Tazkiyah University, the first women-only university in Sub-Saharan Africa.
